A larger vehicle will always get less gas mileage, so there isn't anything you can do about that. Considering how much less room there is between the Explorer and the Expedition I would go back to the Expedition for my next vehicle. You can't beat it for road trips. I love not having to worry about packing too much! The Explorer is a great vehicle, but just a little bit too small when you have a long distance to travel and a lot of suitcases and things to take along. As far as mechanics and handling, I don't think you can beat Ford.
