Overview

The Volvo S80 has undergone a comprehensive mid-generation face lift for 2004. Highlights include additional chrome exterior trim, a restyled grille, a revised rear deck, new door panels and a redesigned instrument cluster.
The S80 model lineup has also expanded from three to five variants, as two new styles debut this year. A new 2.5T trim is available with both front and all-wheel drive. The 2.9 and T6 styles return, and the T6 Elite has been renamed the T6 Premium. All models except the 2.5T are available with Volvo's new Four-C adjustable suspension system.
Volvo's power plant selection expands this year with the arrival of the 2.5T. This new trim is powered by a 2.5 liter inline five, which generates 208 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. This engine can only be paired with a five-speed manual transmission, and fuel economy is expected at 20/27 mpg.
The three other models house a 2.9 liter inline six cylinder engine, and every model is now turbocharged. This engine delivers 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is estimated at 19/26 mpg. A four-speed automatic transmission is mated to this engine.
Reviewers have commented that the S80's interior layout is much improved for 2004, with more user-friendly controls and an aesthetically pleasing instrument cluster. The S80 offers strong acceleration and stable handling across the board, but the 2.9-equipped models will speed from 0 to 60 mph in about seven seconds. The optional new Four-C suspension is well reviewed, and its variable settings can be tailored for comfort with varying surfaces and driving needs. The Sport setting is a good match for the T6's power.

I bought this late model 2004 S80 AWD about 6 weeks ago. I had decided that I wanted specific features such as AWD, leather and a sunroof. I wanted a car and not an SUV, so my choices were limited from a foreign car company standpoint. I wanted to keep the cost below 25k, so I certainly wasn't initally striving for a luxury car. I looked at new Subaru's, Toyota's (no AWD car) and Ford's. The price was around 30k for all the options that I was looking for. I had driven a number volvo's a few years ago when I was travelling on business on a regular basis and renting many cars. While looking on line, I came across certified used Volvo's. I read the warranty and was impressed that I could buy a luxury used car, for under 25k, and get a warranty that is essentially the same as what you get with a new car. I love this car! It is incredibly comfortable and effortless to drive. The mileage is decent for such a powerful car. I can't wait until the winter so that I can experience the handling in snow and ice.

i have 159k miles on the car. nothing major so far. all electrical things working. still good on gas, very stylish. had issues with some electrical parts but was cheap to fix (by good mechanic) Volvo does not recommend to service the transmission but you have to chaneg the transmission fluid around every 80,000 miles because it might give you problem later. not much of oil leaks. interior is stylish and good leather. But somehow hand rest in the middle gets ripped most of the time.
