About 2004 Scion xB
Overview

The xB was introduced in 2004, when Toyota launched its new Scion subsidiary. Scion embodied the Japanese auto maker's desire to tap into a more youthful (specifically under thirty) market. Along with unique styling, the Scion offered abundant opportunities for customization and the atypical haggle-free sales experience.
The xB is compact multipurpose vehicle, which combines the ease of navigating through and parking in tight urban areas with a flexible and surprisingly spacious interior. The xB stretches to just 155 inches in length and weighs 2425 pounds, but offers seating for five and 43 cubic feet of cargo capacity.
Only one trim level was offered in 2004. Standard features included keyless entry, a Pioneer CD/MP3 audio system, air conditioning and full power accessories. A seemingly endless list of dealer installed appearance and sound system upgrades allowed buyers to further personalize the xB.
The xB was powered by a 1.5 liter inline four, supported by Toyota's Variable Valve Timing + intelligence technology. This engine provides the ultra-light MPV with 108 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque, and it is paired with a five speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic is optional. Fuel economy is estimated at 30/33 mpg. ABS is a standard safety feature, along with traction and stability control.
Scion has been tremendously successful in attracting the younger audience that Toyota was aiming for, but many 30+ shoppers are also buying the xB. Owners have been very satisfied the with the lengthy list of standard convenience features, along with the availability and flexibility of the options. Gas mileage and reliability also listed as favorite features. Many drivers caution that the xB best serves the needs of urban commuters, and driving it for extended periods of time can be uncomfortable. While the xB's seats are comfortable, the car's stiff suspension and light weight can lead to a very intrusive road feel.

Performance is on par with the 1.5l engine from the Echo. Build quality is everything you've come to expect from Toyota. Naturally some hate the look. I love it. The cost to own is low what with the 30 miles per gallon and the only failed part so far being the lighter. It's definately fun to drive. Plenty of looks with my custom paint and super rare wheels.

When I bought this car, my wife was not pleased. She felt it was too boxy and ugly. After a couple of weeks, she totally fell in love with it. Easy to park, great visibility (almost an SUV's perspective of the road), and loads and loads of cargo space. The unique style grew on her, and we've enjoyed this car for years now. At over 130k miles, we've definitely gotten our money's worth. Still seeing ~29 MPG regularly. The whole family will be sad to see this one go.

The Scion is just a bad car in my opinion. It gets good gas mileage, but thats because it doesn't move very fast at all, it has great head and let room, but it feels like its going to tip over in the corners. great car if you just need to get to point a to point b, but not very quickly.

I don't care what people think, I LOVE my box! You can't beat the gas mileage of this thing. I think it is super cute. It handles well, just a really light car, so windy days can make it sway a little on the road. fun to drive and overall an inexpensive car to purchase and upkeep. Made by Toyota, so this car should last a while!
