About 2004 Mazda MAZDA3
4.5 Overall rating(34 reviews)

Performance- Acceleration is good for a 4-cyl, but the fact that it's FWD isn't the best. Braking is very good, and handling is fantastic. Even with a mediocre set of tires, the Mazda3 is practically glued to the road. Build Quality- There are some rattles, specifically "glovebox rattle", a common occurrence in Mazdas, I've heard. Easy to fix, but obnoxious nonetheless. Appearance- Interior is very tasteful. Build specifically for drivers. Good amount of interior space, too. The 2004-2009 front fascia is much more aggressive than the new, smiley 2010s. Cost- Great gas mpg, cheap maintenance. Overall, awesome. Fun Factor- This car is a blast. It will surprise you how great it handles on back-roads, and is very nimble.

The best car we have ever owned. No faults. Great performance, fuel efficiency, boot space. Has 6 stacker, 8 air bags, nice looking trim. Never had any issues.

Excellent Car!, has 160K (KM), trouble free. Still get the looks. Just changing oil, brakes, tires, air filter, oil filter (typical maintenance). Drives a lot like a German car, tight, precise steering, lots of low end grunt. Road noise can be a little excessive.

Extremely fun to drive, feels fast, even though the stock 2.3L 4-cyl engine puts out 150 bhp and the 0-60mph is roughly 8 sec. The manual version of this car is the only way to go. This car is just a blast to drive, you can feel the road and the tight handling is just great.

The car handles very good, it is pretty peppy, I love the looks, very sporty with the functionality of a hatchback, however I would rather have a Speed3 which is capable of 155 mph and 0-60 in approx 5.5 seconds.

Overview

Image Not Available

Available as a four-door sedan or a five-door hatchback, the new MAZDA3 was introduced in 2004 as a replacement for the Protege. Designed for ZOOM-ZOOM driving, the sleek, sporty MAZDA3 was available in three trim packages equipped with engines that were both powerful and fuel efficient.

The entry-level MAZDA3i Sedan was powered by a 148-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine. It came with a five-speed manual overdrive transmission, which was standard. A four-speed automatic was optional. While powered features such as windows and door locks were lacking, the i Sedan did come with air conditioning, dual airbags, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, a lighted entry system, and a CD player. Not luxurious, but not too shabby, either.

Step up a notch to the four-door MAZDA3s Sedan or the five-door s Wagon (hatchback), and you get a more powerful 160-horsepower, 2.3-liter four cyclinder engine, with the same standard manual transmission or optional automatic. Standard features were bumped up a notch also, and included the aforementioned power windows and power door locks, plus power outside mirrors, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, sport seats, alloy wheels, and cruise control.

Generally, the MAZDA3 received high marks from drivers, who liked not only the car's sporty handling and peppy engines but also its relatively inexpensive cost. Both around town and on the highway, most drivers liked the MAZDA3's smooth ride, though some thought the suspension was a bit too stiff. Others noted problems with some interior appointments and a less-than-powerful air conditioner.
