About 2004 Lexus SC
Overview

In 2004 Lexus added a very limited edition trim of the Sc 430. This Pebble Beach Edition featured special paint, badging, and interior trimming. Aside from that news, the SC remained unchanged for its third model year. The 2+2 rear wheel drive coupe was a modernized version of the long-running SC 300 and 400. Lexus had revamped the SC to keep it competitive with new offerings from Mercedes and BMW. All SCs were now hard top convertibles. The SC was considerably heavy for its body type and spaciousness. The 430 was over 350 pounds heavier than the previous SCs, but the powerful LS Series V-8 worked to compensate for such bulk. The 4.3 liter V-8 provided an impressive 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Road test data varies for the SC 430, but the 0 to 60 times are confined from 5.9 to 6.6 seconds. The coupe featured many of the finer LS series touches, like a premium Mark Levinson sound system, power heated seats, posh suspension, and a silenced ride. Drivers marveled at the convenience of the one-touch retracting roof, which was a first for Lexus. The SCs safety was unquestioned as usual, aided by powerful brakes, tight handling, and responsive steering. One common issue was the rounded hump shape of the rear deck, topped by a rear brake light. Because the driver is positioned quite low, many felt that this design led to an obstructed rear view.

This 20-year old SC with 123K miles on the clock was a one-owner car, serviced at a Portland Lexus dealership for its entire life up to the moment I drove it away. I look at this car as a millennium icon, because its at the pinnacle of luxury with tech thats 20 years old but still very functional. However one outrageous item is a nav system thats DVD based, meaning the car has no access to the internet and no possibility of updating its maps. Think of how many roads and neighborhoods have been built since then! Still, the car drives out perfectly, stops like it hit an invisible taffy wall, and corners like a wallowing hippo. Wait. Really not bad, but does need coilovers all around and swaybar attention. The condition of this unit is damn near perfection, and it will take some doing to maintain it as well as the first owners did. But this is one of the dwindling fleet of early stock 430s which has the potential to drive beyond 300K. Its a great lifestyle choice at a time when I could have picked a garden-variety GS350 or Toyota Avalon, etc., but its road-going style is far more distinctive than those. Fourteen grand from a Lexus dealership for a perfect as-new daily driver of exceptional value. Shazam. I rule!

W have had our Lexus SC 430 for over two years and have really enjoyed it. It came with very high quality appointments. It has beautiful exterior lines and fine leather and burl wood interior. It is very comfortable. It also is very powerful and runs smoothly, with excellent handing. Gas mileage could be better.

I love this car. After driving it the other day it was as I expected fast, smooth and sleek! I will definitely be looking at getting this vehicle. Besides that I have friends who have this car since 2002.
