great handling, no rattles/creaks, great braking, bmw famous steering and suspension, great cargo carrying capacity, great moon roof, great family vehicle, over 20mpg city and short highway, but lack of modern tech and for an over 100k miles car maintenance is expected average

I've owned four E46 BMW's (all with manual transmissions). I've ventured out and sampled the Audi A4 and A6, the Mercedes C and E Class and the BMW 5 Series. I always come back to the E46. My lifestyle requires the utility of a wagon, but I want the handling and performance of a sport sedan. Hands down the 2001-2005 BMW 3 Series is the finest drving machine on the planet for it's combination of balanced driving dynamics, comfort, safety and real-world performance & reliability. It is the ultimate driving machine for me.
