Though driving enthusiasts may like to have their flings with flashier, more exotic, and cooler cars, the LeSabre is like the steady, dependable spouse you always come home too -- reliable, comfortable, and still brimming with enough attributes to keep you plenty satisfied.
The 2002 LeSabre is available as a Custom and more upscale Limited trim, both with a 3.8-liter, 205-hp DOHC V6 and 4-speed automatic. This year, they get a new 8-spoke steering wheel, and new 16-inch chrome-plated aluminum wheels are offered in the Gran Touring package for the Limited. The Limited also gets standard leather seats with memory settings. A manual trunk release and a new radio are also added in 2002. The Custom starts you off with ABS brakes, dual front-side airbags, power features, a power driver's seat, cruise control, and remote entry. The Limited adds traction control, OnStar, power front seats, faux wood trim, power outlets, and a trunk pass-through to make up for the non-folding rear seats. Stability control is optional on both models, and you can add a sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, and a 12-CD player. An innovative heads-up display projects information onto the windshield just above the dash.
Overall, the LeSabre is safe and reliable, getting the highest ratings in crash tests. Driver like its smooth power and the 20/29 mpg. The cabin and trunk are roomy, and seats are comfortable on long trips. Drivers say it handles effortlessly, and they like the wheel-mounted audio controls. The reason these cars are still in demand is the legendary reliability and surprising fuel economy of what can arguably be termed GMs last great powerplant, the 3.8L V6 engine. Mated to an equally bulletproof 4 speed automatic transmission, these cars give Toyota a run for its money in terms of the longevity they can deliver with reasonable attention to maintenance.
I have had my LeSabre for a year now. It has 105k miles on it and I bought it from a dealer for $4400 otd. The Buick LeSabre has a reputation for being a grandmas car, as any Buick does. I am very happy with the ride its very soft and handles well. The 2002 models have a 3.8 3800 series V6. As people have said to me before, it is the best motor GM has. The gas mileage is good, but it is a V6 so it doesn't have the mileage of an in line 4. So far only minor issues have occurred. The rear air shocks leak and need replacing. Also there is a slight groaning sound coming from the steering wheel but it is only a minor fluid problem. The interior is very clean. There are power seats, tilt wheel, am/fm radio with a Cd and tape player combo. The car comes with front and side airbags standard. The trunk is very large, even with a full size spare. With my last car I was able to customize it with cold air intake systems and exhaust. With the Buick however, the computer systems will not allow a cold air or K&N intake system which is a drawback for some. This car moves pretty quick, I am very happy with its overall performance.
Very smooth ride. Way ahead in features for the year. Solid and dependable. A joy to drive!
