The truck-based Toyota Sequoia was introduced in 2001. The most notable thing about the Sequoia is its size. It’s huge. Designed to compete with the Ford Expedition, the Sequoia is meant for drivers who often carry a lot of passengers or a lot of cargo. The interior of the Sequoia is well designed to take advantage of the extra space, with plenty of cubbies and storage. The third row seats are removable, and the second row seats fold, to create a large amount of cargo space.
The 2001 Sequoia is available in two trims, the SR5 and the Limited. The Limited is the more luxurious version, with leather seating, front and rear air conditioning, and an upgraded stereo. Both share a 4.7-liter, 280 power V8, and both are available as a two or four-wheel drive. Not surprisingly, fuel economy is 14/17.
Despite its size and heft, drivers say their 2001 Sequoias are easy to drive and handle quite well. Owners also say the cars are very reliable and perform very well in the snow. Most complaints are not surprising, giving the 2001 Sequoia’s size. Drivers say the car is difficult to get into and park, and has poor gas mileage. Another complaint is limited rear visibility.

(19 reviews)This car is the best I ever had, comfortable, roomy. You can do lotsss of things in here.It fits 8 very comfortably.Good for long trips.Very fun car to drive. The only thing right now is the gas.But besides that It's an awesome car. This vehicle comes with a nice sound system, but I changed it all. I put a new navigation with two kicker amps and a kicker sub. And an overhead dvd player. This sounds really good now. I love this car.
Just a great all around car. Built like a tank. Quite, reliable, tows well, big but not too big. Drives smaller than it is. Gas milage is rough but it is a truck so i guess that is to be expected. If my wife wasn't just plain old tired of driving it we would still own it. Bought a 2010 sequoia and love ias well
Totally reliable, spacious SUV that has been a perfect car for our family of five. Easily fit three car seats across the middle row when our girls were babies, which was our primary reason for buying it in the beginning. Offers a comfortable third row and still allows storage in the back. My only complaint is that I wish the third row seats could tuck away better -- possible newer models offer this. Update: the latch on our back hatch has broken twice since we've owned this, which has been an annoyingly expensive fix both times. The back hatch, which opens up, is actually very heavy too -- kind of a pain.
I bought the Sequoia for family trips and snow days. Handles great in the snow! Tons of room. Comfortable. Easy to maintain. Really just needs oil changes! Gets about 16 mpg. 154k odo...never any issues. Truly reliable with minimal maintenance!
Not quite the bulletproof Toyota that I had expected, but it's big enough for anything and gas isn't that bad. Not a racecar! It's great on the interstate, and handles well for its size. Used ones are cheap! Made in Japan is better, but that's called Lexus.
