Lexus dropped a new, more powerful V8 engine into its popular GS 400 in the 2001 model year, giving birth to the 300 horsepower Lexus GS 430. To mark the occasion the car received a significant overhaul and new features.

In addition to the engine upgrade, there were minor styling changes including changes to the front grille. Safety features were also added, like a sensor to detect when the front seat was empty and deactivate the passenger side air bag. New metallic gray trim on the dash board and ergonomic features dominated changes in the cabin.

It wasn't the most comfortable car for taller drivers and backseat passengers, according to owner reviews. Still, most drivers were impressed.

"This car has exceeded every expectation I had for it," wrote one owner. "It is fun to drive but also very luxurious and comfortable."
