I bought the 2001 Suburban used as a road trip car. Perfect choice for this purpose. It has more room than most families of 4 could conceivably use but comes in handy for the times when you need suitcases, dogs, and whatever else. Gas is expensive but no surprise there.

as far as a big, gas guzzlin', road hoggin' V8 roarin' SUV goes, it's the most civilized truck you can get, everything works the way you want it to. Especially the door handles which are by far my favorite feature, everything is ergonomically designed, including the gear shift which, in drive, provides a perfect place to rest your hand while selecting a radio station or cd track. due to the technology of the time you get a cd player and tape deck, plus the standard am/fm radio with 9 fm presets and 6 am presets. as far as build quality goes, honestly it could be better, the air filled shocks in the rear wear out quickly and the high-tech air conditioning system seems prone to gremlins, but if you really don't care about the luxury options, it's a good tough truck, extremely useful for towing and long road trips.

This is a great truck for hauling people and gear. The engine is strong enough to take you up the steepest mountain roads and it performs well in all weather, snow, ice, and extreme heat. The truck is very solid and does not have any rattles or sqeaks. The black on gray color combination is very striking and it still looks great at 10 years old. Maintenance has been very reasonable for this truck.
