although it is under powered and gas milage is not that great.

I love the car. I got it for a great price and have had a couple of issues. It has been great though. The only problem is the oil leak. We can't seem to track it in the engine. Great though.

my 1997 mazda mpv was way under powered. coulda done better on that. good 4x4 system tho. Horable fuel millage. It didnt handle to well around courners. Very bogy up hills.But it was a great car for the winter. Would go anywere in the snow.

First of all I have owned Mazda's for 42 years,I always buy the top models, Be cheep get cheep. I have a 1997 MPV allsport 4X4 130,000 miles on it. It pulls our 19 foot boat to the ocean launch and home,pulls my 17 foot boler travel trailer on 2000 or more miles trips through B.C and down the U.S.A. without any problems, Fuel mileage is really good for a van that weighs 4100 lb. 300 miles on average to 13 CAN gallons (16.3 US gallons) 23 mpg CAN (18 miles per gallon US,short trips around town, 17 mpg(CND) towing the travel trailer on holidays through the mountains of B.C. It came with the towing package with a bigger rad. transmittion cooler. Never a problem, Just change the oils with synthetic all around, The 4 wheel drive with the center differencial lockup for tough going in the snow or getting to the small lakes off road with the 3500 lb. travel trailer makes easy going,Lots of ground clearance. I will be replacing the timing belt this week, as it is due. The 97s and 98s with the new 2 tone paint and trim look nice. mine is white and silvery gray, nice rims and a good tire size, Quiet to drive and very comfortable, I'm 6'2 and big so a car does not work for me anymore ( and did I say OLD) well 66 is OK! This is an update Nov. 24, 2012. Well my MPV has 159,588 miles on it now. Had the timing belt and and water pump replaced with real Mazda parts at little over 130,000 miles, and then at 150,000 miles had the brakes on the front replaced for the first time, hard to believe but the stock Mazda brake are ceramic, so I had new ceramic brakes put on it. They are twice the price but it the if the first ones lasted 150,000 miles these will last of the life of the van. The next thing I am going to replace is the fuel pump as this is also original, they are about $200 and easy to replace, This Van has so much original parts it makes me wonder, I keep checking every thing twice, but happy June 23,2015 update, Just had the timing belt replaced at 188,000 miles, also had to replace oil seals on the front of the camshaft,they were leaking a little this is the first time that the motor had to have a repair $40.00 over the cost of the timing belt, cheap, Well I have been transporting around the new fuel pump for about 40,000 miles in the car for when the original packs it in,I think I'll install it this summer just so its done. I had the work done at the local Mazda dealer, they do it right with properly trained tradesmen. the fuel mileage is still holding on, the last trip to the interior of B.C., 400 miles took 13.5 Canadian gallons,29.6 miles to the gallon (15.7 US gallons,25.46 miles to the US gallon ) Its still a keeper and if your doing the math i'm 71 now and cheep as the come, it comes with age you know
