Mazda added an upscale M-Edition to its lineup of MX-6 sport coupes for 1996. Other than that, the cars remained unchanged from the previous year.
In addition to the M-Edition, the MX-6 was available in base (or standard) and LS trim packages. The base MX-6 was equipped with a 118-horsepower, 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine, while the LS and M-Edition were powered by a 164-horsepower, 2.5-liter V6. A five-speed manual transmission was standard across the line, while a four-speed automatic was optional.
Standard features for the base model included power brakes, power windows, power door locks, and power exterior mirrors, as well as dual airbags, cruise control, a tilt steering wheel, and an AM/FM/cassette audio system.
The LS added such features as air conditioning and a sunroof, as well as fog lights, an anti-theft alarm system, and alloy wheels. The M-Edition also included leather seats, anti-lock brakes, a keyless entry system, a CD changer, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, among other features.
Better gas mileage was one improvement that could have made the MX-6 better, drivers noted. Room in the back seat was also limited. However, drivers liked the MX-6's styling, handling, performance, reliability, and ride.
4.4 Overall rating
(8 reviews)Fast, fairly reliable, and good looking. As far as I'm concerned, the only two downfalls it has, is a slight reliability issue, and you need the arms of a scarecrow with four elbows to work on it. Overall, a great car.
Off the line it took off with wheels spinning. It took corners like pro with 6.5 inch wide wheels. Although the engine only had 120 horsepower the torque was crazy and it pulled hard when given gas. I topped out at 145 mph with the speed limiter removed. It got to 110 mph quick but the crawled to 145 mph. It's hard to keep the wheels from spinning with even the slightest moisture on the road. The engine can take alot of abuse but the auto transmission is a weak point. If I was to buy this car again, I would get the 6 cylinder with the 5 speed manual transmission.
I like that it's faster than most economy cars, however it needs a lot of maintenence. it's got 232k miles as of june 08, and has cost me a grand total of about $4500. I love driving it.
Car runnin amaizing with 213xxx its got great acceleration and power i mean it runs with mustangs love mods and love the body cheap to maintain and well worth every penny... No rust so far and everything holds up really well... great car to customize and make ur own i got money into mine and am proud of it
i bought the car knowing it needs a new engine so when i bought it i did the klze swap and a stage 1 racing clutch new axels but overall its a fun car to rip around in everywhere still
