Overview

In 1996, both variations of the Chrysler Concorde were revised. Improved nighttime visibility headlights and extra interior noise insulation were added, and the exterior received a mild facelift. Wheel size was also increased to 16 inches on the base LX. The LX trim was priced lower than the LXi, but the primary different between the two was the road manners. The LXi delivered a softer ride, while LX was tuned more for responsiveness. The LX used a smaller V-6: 3.3 liters verses the LXi's 3.5. The smaller power plant provide the LX with 161 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. The Concorde moved through the speed range considerably quickly for a larger car, accelerating from 0 to 60 in 8 seconds and completing a quarter mile in 16. The sedan was only available with front wheel drive and a four-speed automatic transmission. The Concorde is most often praised for its spacious interior and relatively efficient fuel consumption. These two features are difficult to achieve in one car, but Chrysler's cab forward layout allowed for maximum cabin room without adding to the overall bulk of the car. At just 3330 pounds, the 17 foot Concorde achieved the same interior space as cars weighing over 4000 pounds.

when it is running I love it. However since reaching about 80 to 85 thousand miles it has been a maintenance headache. I think it is the 3.5 engine. I have another concorde with the 3.3 liter engine and it is approaching 200 K miles with only normal type repairs.

Had my tranny fall out at less then 60K, brakes had to be all redone, at 55K, electronic problems too. This car was in the repair shop a lot. I loved the looks and the nice leather interior, a little sluggish. But all in all this was a fairly nice car. Maybe I got a lemon.
