Used Volvo 960 for Sale near Concord, CA

I bought this 15-year old Volvo 960 3.0 24V Automatic sedan in April, with just over 400.000 kms on the clock (250 K miles). Considering it's size and weigh, and automatic gearbox, this car performs impressively with it's 204 BHP. It accelerates to highway speed in no time, and does repris accelleration smoothly and swiftly. This has no negative consequences to the luxurious feel the car was meant to give, as it is an all-out luxury sedan. The automatic gearshift is seemless and smooth, and accurately chosen to match as smooth a drive as possible. A "SWE" selector will let you choose between "S" (longer gears, lower gear, higher revs), "W" (Winter - high gears, slower acceleration, steady acceleration on ice), and "E" (Economic, shorter gears, up-shifting earlier, still fabulous performance) This car is the last rear-wheel drive from Volvo, the last "Volvo Classic" in the line, and definitely a worthy end to the classics. This car is incredibly easy to drive, smooth, and extremely maneuverable. But it is also a "fun" car to drive, with it's 6-cylinder in-line 3-liter engine, RW traction, and in "S"port mode, it's swift, and makes for a adrenaline rush. 100% recommended.

good power, tight handles well @ 100 mph

Bought the 960 in 1992 - new - 3.6 miles on it. Changed the timing belt @ every 30K miles as directed. Performed all maintenance required in accordance with the owner's manual. At 98K miles (1999 A.D.)the timing belt snapped while driving - valves into the pistons, ruined the (aluminum $1,700) head. Went to a dealer in New Hampshire -they simply wanted money. No real experience in their mechanic pool -average for the shop was 6 years working on Volvos). $3,500 later - new head (from Swedon), many, many new parts & the car drove for 990 miles - the head warped again (2000 A.D.), oil spraying out of the right side of the engine - estimate of $7K to fix it again. I went to Volvo of North America and they referred me back to the dealer in New Hampshire - the N.H. dealer said it was a lemon & all responsibility layed with Volvo of North America. 15 years later it sets in my back yard - under a car cover. $37,000 car - best offer I was ever given was $1,000 as a stock car body. Body is still excellent - engine runs abgout 20 minutes then the anti-freeze hits the cylinders & the neighbors come running because of the smoke. Bought the 960 for safety and style but never realized Volvo's problem is Customer Service and dependability. They'll sell them bgut they don't stand behind them - I paid cash - big mistake. I also went to the New Hampshire Attorney General's office - they told me to take the N.H. dealer to court and thanked me for my input.

An amazing car for certain. Timeless design, powerful, and adding shocks to the back no more Nevomat system, that is unless you like that soft ride, and beware of the timing belt issue for early 92,93; only 20 and 30k. Very expensive, but necessary maintenance. My 1993 had zero repaired until 126k and then got a small gas leak, which cost 250.00 to fix.
