Other than a bump of nearly $10,000 in its original price, not much changed between the 1990 and 1991 editions of the Mercedes-Benz 500-Class, which consisted of the SL roadster. The exterior was still aerodynamically sleek and stylish, although the look might seem a bit dated to today's drivers. But under the hood was the exemplary 5.0-liter, 322-hp V8, which gave the SL its real sports-car feel.

Standard features for the 500SL were extensive, beginning with a power convertible top and a pop-up roll-bar that protected occupants should a roll-over accident occur. Anti-lock brakes and power leather seats were also standard. Add to that just about everything power, including power windows, door locks, mirrors, tilt steering wheel, and antenna, as well as cruise control, automatic climate control, rear window defroster, and alloy wheels, and you have a truly remarkable luxury sports car.
