Mercedes-Benz kicked off the 1990s on a high note with the 500-Class, consisting of the 500SL roadster. Drawing on the SL's storied history, the '90 500SL was aerodynamically streamlined and sportier than ever. Improvements also were made to the car's stability at high speeds -- something both noticeable and important in a vehicle of this pedigree. While the car's design was certainly noteworthy, the real story was under the hood, where a powerful 5.0-liter, 322-hp V8 was coupled with a 4-speed automatic, resulting in an enviable powerplant. Standard equipment included leather seats, power windows, power door locks, air conditioning, and airbags for the driver and passenger. In the event of a roll-over accident, a pop-up roll bar was automatically deployed to protect the occupants. Other features of the car included a power convertible cloth roof, a hardtop roof, automatic climate control, anti-lock braking system, leather bucket seats, power heated mirrors, power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, alloy wheels, and much more.

This is the way a Mercedes-Benz should be. Personally, I am a BMW man but could not resist this W126 500SEL as a restoration project. The vehicle itself is a 1986 model and not 1990 as it is listed here; the program's earliest year was 1990. Full leather, electrics and 5 litre carburetted V8...and its the long wheel base model, rear seat passengers get leg room galore. Performance wise...WOW! SO MUCH TORQUE! Only problem is the V8 is fuel thirsty :) Styling wise; it's classic Mercedes-Benz. The new ones are too...'plastic'...this Mercedes-Benz looks like a tank!

This was the end ofthe line for the Uber Quality Benz. Very Solid and Reliable as a car can be. I love these and I have owned/own 2 of them, a Euro 500SEL and and a 300SEL. Had to let to 300 go, but they are just wonderfull examples of how Mercedes Benz was very far ahead of anybody else at the time these were being made. Love'um :-)

this car is a beautiful German car mine was the euro spec and i loved everything on it the leather was comfortable the stereo was good the body is gorgeous and it has a massive engine that will just burn the tires off

Brought this to go to Le Mans 2007 as I sold my E55 before I went, dark grey with black leather and a 2 door pillarless S-class coupe with period 18" Lorinser Rims, also had most of the exhaust removed to let the V8 symphony out, Mine was built in 87, I would not buy another one as most of them are now rust buckets, very cool though
