This car had few frills but lots of features, unlike any American made car I ever owned, this one started every time I turned the key. The back lifted during hard cornering, but it got great gas mileage, fit into tiny parking spaces, had room for four and never leaked! 1.9 liter engine gave it peppy acceleration, big fat tires made it stop quickly and evenly and the A/C and radio were just great.

This was my first "new" car, with only 50,000 mi. The second week I bought it, drove to Louisiana. Drove it a couple more times to LA before it kicked. I worked as a film runner, driving the car up and down a mountain all day. I ran it into a ditch and it never stopped running. I drove it to and from college, over two hours away, several times. In 2002 it was starting to show its age. If I let it sit for more than a day the battery would die. It needed over $4000 of front end work, and there was some loud clicking sound in the motor by early 2003. The last day I drove it, I had to jump it off at the dealership, jump it again to swap the radios, and again to get back to the dealership. There are days I really miss that car.

I absolutely loved this car!!!! I acctually wish I had never gotten rid of it. For being a little car the 4 cyl always had a little extra get up and go. The 5 speed was great for gas mileage. Never really had any major problems with this car. One trip I made a 90 mile jog in under an hour and still got 37 mpg!!!

Its not sporty, its not large, and at a whopping 89 horsepower, its not going to win any races. But if you're looking for a good daily driver, the escort is a good car for you. The 4 door LX model has a 1.9L SEFI 4 cylinder engine, and comes with either a 4 speed automatic transmission, or a 5 speed manual transmission. The LX really only means it comes with an air conditioner. The car is very clean looking and comfortable, and can really take a beating. I only gave it a low quality score because the Ford Automatic transmissions for this model of car do not hold up very well and tend to die quite often. The 5 speed manual does not have this problem. The car handles well for what it is, and will do almost anything you want it to do assuming you're not racing the thing. The vehicle is pretty easy and cheap to fix, and all parts between 1991 and 1996 are interchangeable, making parts extremely common. The Ford Escort shares some common parts with Mercury Tracers and Mazda Protege's.
