Performance is great for a 22R 2.4L. Never had any major problems and it was bullet proof. Had 245,000 miles on it when I sold it. It ran excellent and never smoked or burned any oil. I liked the body styling of this particular year. Great gas mileage. Consistantly got 32 mph, even at 245,000 miles. Low maintenance. It was fun to drive. Just a little small for me being '6 3" tall. Sold it to buy something larger.

My old truck had been my favorite car. Regardless of the weak but durable 22RE, it had great handling for a 4WD truck and four piston brake calipers stopped her on a dime. Mine was abused before I got it and wasn't as reliable for me, but she ran on three cylinders when the head gasket and head blew, she was a real trooper. One of the toughest vehicles money can buy, as Top Gear proved. I loved the way it looked, the stripes on the side, the aftermarket rims and the pre-runner look I could achieve by removing the lower valance (easily) and bolting on driving lights. Gas mileage was pretty good until we parted ways, combined, it was about 21-24 MPG. This was a blast to drive on and off the street, the suspension could handle sharp manuevering without much body roll, you have the freedom of going off the paved roads, however, with the Independent front suspension the 1986 plus trucks come with, rock crawling should be avoided

I love that I can point my pickup at any mountain or trail, and it usually does what I ask of it. Very cheap to own, have not needed any major repairs from 110k miles thru 145k miles. I love the styling, get 20 miles per gallon, and missed it too much to sell it.
