Overview
Reviews
Picture of 1986 Toyota Cressida The Toyota Cressida was largely unchanged for 1986. It had just been redesigned the year before, getting an updated body and many new amenities. The 1986 Toyota Cressida came as a wagon or a sedan. he engine was a 2.8-liter, 156-horsepower 6 cylinder, and it came standard with an automatic transmission. A five-speed manual was available as an option. The Cressida was well-equipped, coming with a generous amount of standard features. Fuel economy was about 19/24. Drivers are very enthusiastic about the 1986 Toyota Cressida, saying that the rear wheel drive makes it fun to drive, it offers a very smooth and comfortable ride, and with proper care should last for a very long time. Many drivers have had the expected age-related problems, and some have had rust issues.

This is the only dream car I ever purchased. I loved the get up and go in this car. It would fly. I got rid of this car way too soon. I loved the ride, the stereo, the seats, I loved everything. I drove it to death. Still love this car

My father owned a 1986 Toyota cressida and it was the greatest car I have ever driven. (even 25 yrs later) The ride was smooth as a baby's butt and the sound system was incredible for it's day. Everything about it was perfect- the ride- the seating (soo comfortable !) and it never broke down. My only regret is entering the military and not taking it with me ! This is the greatest car ever !

My Cressida is a hand me down from my dad so I've known basically the entire car's lifespan. The interior is very well appointed with a proper mix of cloth, plastic and something rare today...metal. Comfort has never been an issue in this car since it was designed as a long distance cruiser. I've never heard anybody say anything negative about the comfort of my car after giving them a ride. Powered by a straight-six producing 156 hp, its numbers are low today but still on par with a lot of 4-cylinders. Where I was most impressed with this car is its cornering, very few cars of this size corner so well at 100 kph. Having RWD helps a great deal but the suspension being nearly the same as a Mk II Supra's is even better. It has a limited slip differential as standard equipment(if its Canadian) making it more fun as well as controllable in winter. Styling of this car is ultra-conservative. If you do not like square conservative cars, you probably think its ugly. That said, this car has a lot of exterior chrome even for an 80s car. The paint quality is very good so many Cressidas still shine brighly. I've found its exterior looks to be useful, since it presents itself as "grandpa's car" cops often look the other way and book a young man in a Honda Civic. Its styling also shocks people after they realized its so good. Running this car is a bit more expensive than others. First thing, I use premium fuel not so much for performance rather my engine runs far more smoothly with less hesitation thus saving me fuel that would have been wasted bringing the car to speed. It actually can consume fuel better than several new mid-sized/full sized cars so long as you don't drive it stupidly. While its extremely reliable if anything actually breaks...its either one of two things or both...the part is expensive, the part will take likely 2 weeks to arrive. Overall, because of this car's excellent qualities I've put off having a newer car...because there's nothing out there that's better without spending large sums of money. My dad intended to give me his 2004 Toyota Avalon's keys, I told him I didn't want it since I liked the Cressida so much more.

the 86 Grange Hardtop was the best ever: it looked so good for its time, performed well, and was reasonably priced (140 hp 2.8 L efi L6, and full power option at only SR32,000), where can you find this now?

nicknamed the beast because it goes like one. 23 years 92000 grandma driven miles everything works, but the a/c. Steering tight, brakes grab. 25 mpg on premium. This car was to be given to my 16 year old by my 80 yr old mother, but I'm not ready to see it wrecked. New tires, stereo and floormats. Will cars ever be built this well again?
