About 1976 Jeep Wagoneer
Overview

A 401 cubic inch V-8 engine topped the engine line of the 1976 Jeep Wagoneer, a powerful unit to be sure. If 401 cubic inches was just too much, then a 360 cubic inch V-8 or a 258 I-6 were also available. Three engines, as usual, came with three transmission options, a Warner T-14A three-speed manual, a Warner T-15A four-speed manual, and a G TH 400 three-speed automatic. 1976 also saw a change in the rear axle of the JEep Wagoneer: an AMC 20 replaced the DANA 44, for those of you who know what that means. The 1976 Jeep Wagoneer was a versatile SUV, targeted to both off-roading gearheads and families who wanted something big and powerful to drive around town in and scare other drivers with. There was certainly plenty of interior room to fit a family in the 1976 Jeep Wagoneer. The bench front seat may not be as desirable as bucket seats today, but it did allow for 6 passengers (perhaps not in the manuals, but that's just a comfort problem). And with features like power steering, cruise control and air conditioning all available, this almost seems like a family-oriented SUV. But don't let the cushy interior fool you; the 1976 Jeep Wagoneer was a beast built for the wild wilderness. It was just happy driving through town, intimidating other cars, too.
