(10 reviews)What can you say about a running and good looking 40 year old 4 speed Bimmer that is bad? It gets lots of looks and is fun to drive. Twisty roads in the countryside fly by in smiles, even if you get to nowhere and head home a different route. Every 60 plus guy who drove one should give it a try. They are easy to fix, there are people who can help, parts are not a problem, and stuff is simpler. Best to avoid rust issues.
There is lots to like about this group of BMWs, the 2002s. Parts new and used are available although some can be very expensive. Really well restored cars can bring plenty, but cost plenty to get there. It is a fun to drive and very responsive 2 liter. It is not for everyone nor for every season since it is old architecture-heat is manual, manual steering, crank windows, and no limited slip. There is only so much one can do to improve the exterior lighting and visibility of the car. It is a bit of a cult car: old guys like them 'cause we drove them as kids.
It's actually owned by my dad at the time. All I remembered was it scared the crap out of me. It could be down to two things. 1) Being it's RWD I have spund it a few times ended up facing the wrong way. 2) The fact that it's a BMW 2002 tii, which is one of these cars that will give any car a run for it's money because it wasn't slow at that era.
It's a fun car to drive, it's a car that makes turned heads on is passage, people you come across often sends you hand to congratulate you for your car, the experience behind the wheel is really indescribable, I am always fascinated that a 40-year-old car was also pleasant to drive and that as a design has breathtaking. Is only weak point is the cost of the repairs.
As an owner of a 2800CS, I was already lured by the E9 Coupé's appeal. With the very limited number of Homologated cars of the 3.0 CSL variant, when one became available for sale it was hard to pass up. This one came literally from a little old lady in Pasadena whose husband had recently passed. He was the original owner. The car is even more special in that it is one of only two known examples of the CLS in the Turkis color. It was repainted its original color in the 80s, along with other parts of the restoration, including a "desert sunset" pattern aftermarket Recaro interior, which was immediately replaced with the correct Scheel seats and new carpets. The motor has recently been completely rebuilt and drives as it did in 1973. It feels very much like a car that, even in its homologated "Stadtpaket" form, could win its class at LeMans (which its motorsport cousin did).
