This car is one of America's most well driven cars in the 60's and 70's besides the Chevy II and the Novas and the Mustangs, and owners usually drag race them. Hurst has made Hemi versions of them, making a respectable 11 seconds in a 1/4 mile. While the base 6 cylinder models are known for better power and toque than the other inline sixes that GM and Ford had to offer during the time. The motor itself has a reputation of being the most durable and reliable motor ever conceived, rivaling if not beating that of Toyota Motors. The Performance of the vehicle is a surprise to most people, they would feel the car take off like a V8 of it's time yet once you go higher up the power band the power starts to fade, the motor itself has v8 torque at 3,000 RPM, but 6 cylinder horsepower at 4,400 RPM. With the timing retarded by a few degrees from zero, the engine's low torque is beefed up quite a bit, but suffers at mid/high end power. I have raced my dart against a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer ES and I can tell you for a fact that the torque makes a huge difference. When we drag raced i left him in the dust by TEN Car Lengths and as soon as i hit third gear the Lancer slowly started to catch up to me. This is a very big surprise for someone who would want to drag race a 4 cylinder car. The motor has only needed a new head and carburetor, which is around 750 dollars, but after that and adjustment, usually the car can last for a very long time. The only issue that i have had is that remanufacture companies that rebuild old carburetors are usually not built good so a good tearing apart and cleaning and getting a rebuild kit and rebuilding it yourself or have a professional rebuilder do it usually fixes this problem for good. The body has a lot of dings and dents in it, but most have been taken out so the body isn't a huge issue. Most darts will have dents and dings in them, but nothing huge, A good chunk of them all have rust spots. Another issue all Darts, actually all Mopars have is that they ALWAYS rust in the trunk, so be sure to check the trunk for any rust damage.

Performance: Acceleration 12.80@104 mph in the 1/4, KelseyHays 4 piston calipers with brake proportioning valve, handling heavy duty torsion bars with rear leaf springs and front and read Addco Sway Bars. Build Quality, unfortunately typical 1970's. Appearance. 340 stripe package with dual hood scoops screamed American muscle. Mileage was typical for a 373 cubic inch stroked 340 9 mpg. Serious Fun, especially with the handling because most people do not expect a muscle car to be able to brake and turn.

Currently in progress of getting the mechanicals back in order, It has a 318 smallblock that that has a heart of a lion. It is parked in my garage on jack stands at the moment, I have a built 8 3/4 rear end recently rebuilt by AZ diff specialists and with strange axles, putting Baer brakes on the rear to get rid of those ancient drums. I also plan on putting coil overs in the front to replace the torsion bars, with magnum force upper control arms and 73 a-body spindles so I can put some real brakes up front. I also have a heavy duty sway bar. I want to go fast and handle well! I have had this car for a long time and plan on keeping it forever.

This is a great Muscle Car that gets over looked. There are the general Muscle Car issues so yea handling and wear/ tear is harsh. However, if you take care of it and put in the effort you will have a piece of MOPAR history that has some serious attitude and speed that kicks you in the face and forces those around you to pay attention. There is nothing quite like a Dodge Demon.

needs a 440 and a 4 speed, rusts around the rear quarters, the front framerails, lower fron fenders, the front floorpans and sometimes the trunk. i have everything but the quarters fixed so far. build quality- if it has a slant six 9 times out of 10 it runs, or will run with ease, my slant six runs like a dream , even starting it on a freezing cold day with no heat riser and no choke isint so bad unless you flood the carb. its a 2 door, the appearence is great, has a real jr. musclecar look for a damn good price, put the right powerplant in and leave camaros in your rear view mirror. the cars a blast
