The coupe or convertible 1968 Pontiac Firebird may have shared a platform and some body panels with the Camaro, but it was slowly carving out its own niche in the muscle car segment. Changes for 1968 include the disappearance of the side vent windows, and new wraparound turn signal lights and Pontiac V marker lights in the rear. A new suspension included staggered shocks and multi-leaf rear springs. Changes to the instrument panel, a new anti-theft button, and an optional 4-way power seat were also new for 1968.
For its second year on the market, the 1968 Firebird updated its engines for more pony car performance or just personal fun behind the wheel. The base engine was now a 250 I6, with a new single-barrel carb that got 175-hp. The Sprint remained a 230-block at 215-hp. The V8s got some minor horsepower upgrades, but also a wider variety of options. The old 326 was now a 350 V8 that got 265-hp with a 2-barrel carb or 320-hp with a 4-barrel carb. The 400 V8 came in a wide palate of options. The four-barrel carb base engine rated 330-hp, but a High Output version upped that to 335-hp. There was also a High Output engine with Ram Air option, that didn't boost the horsepower, but reached its peak performance at a higher RPM. Midyear, this would be replaced by a Ram Air II that did increase the horsepower to 340-hp.
The 400 V8s came with heavy duty parts and stiffer suspension for maximum street racing handling. But for average drivers looking for a little kick behind the wheel, the Sprint I6 produced an adequately satisfying sporty feel.

(23 reviews)1968 pontiac firebird 350 convertible. Brand new American Racing rims and tires. Paint job is over 25 years old but it looks brand new. New seats. Straight pipes back and wheelie bar set up. overall head turner and gorgeous car.
What can I say? This is a clasic muscle car whose styling is still current (IMHO). It is a piece of history and is a ball to drive. And unlike the Camaro's of the same generation not everybody has one!
