Rivian was founded in 2009, originally called Mainstream Motors before rebranding in 2011. It was founded by R.J. Scaringe, an American engineer and entrepreneur. In 2021, Rivian went public on the Nasdaq. Amazon owns 18.1% of Rivian and Volkswagen owns a 16% share. 12.7% is owned by Abdul Latif Jameel, which is a family-owned business conglomerate from Saudi Arabia. Other investors in Rivian include BlackRock, Vanguard Group, and T. Rowe Price.

What Sort of Vehicles Does Rivian Make?

Rivian currently sells two vehicles, the R1T pickup and the R1S SUV. Both are spacious, high-tech, and versatile. The R1T slots in between midsize and full-size trucks on size. The R1S is a large SUV with three rows of seating and plenty of cargo space. There are two more vehicles planned for the near future; the 2026 R2 is a midsize SUV and the 2027 R3 is a compact SUV.
