Unlimited-mile warranties are rare in the automotive world and usually only offered as dealer-level incentives by independent franchise stores. Mercedes-Benz certified pre-owned vehicles (MBCPO) come with an unlimited-mileage warranty for one year after the purchase date, and the company offers the ability to extend that coverage for another two years.
In order to become certified, a vehicle must meet these requirements:
• Have less than 75,000 miles • Be within the last 6 model years • Have a clean Carfax report • Have no structural damage • Pass a 165-point vehicle inspection
The Mercedes-Benz inspection checklist covers everything from structural damage checks to an inspection of interior items like floor mats. Detail items like the vehicle’s scent and moisture levels are also noted in the checklist.
Warranty
The Mercedes-Benz CPO (MBCPO) program includes warranty coverage that is slightly different than that of most other manufacturers. Instead of designating a time period and mileage limit for its CPO warranty, the company covers a newly purchased vehicle under its original factory warranty for the duration of time or mileage that is left in the agreement. The CPO vehicle then has comprehensive coverage for one additional year with no mileage limit. Most parts of the vehicle are covered, which can include the engine and powertrain, steering, suspension, brakes (excluding discs and pads), electrical systems, climate controls, and audio components.
Although the 1-year warranty is much shorter than most CPO programs’ coverage, Mercedes-Benz does offer the option to extend the unlimited mileage coverage for an additional 2 years beyond the standard duration. There is no deductible, and the coverage offered for MBCPO vehicles is fully transferable to any future owners at no additional cost.
Perks
Roadside assistance
While the warranty is still in effect, roadside assistance is available to MBCPO owners at no charge. The service is provided 24 hours a day and covers tire changes or re-inflation, dead-battery jump starts, and fuel refills. Roadside assistance also includes coverage for trip interruption.
Vehicle Exchange Program
Within the first 7 days of the original purchase, you can exchange your CPO vehicle for another one of equal value. If you want to exchange it for a more expensive vehicle, you’ll just have to pay the difference in price between the two.
Special Financing
Special rates and incentives are frequently available for vehicles in the MBCPO program through the company’s financial services division. Promotional financing terms and rates are different for various models and model years but can include perks such as a 1.99 percent APR and 2 months of payment credits.
