Next to the stronger 3500, the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty is the lesser of two workhorse pickups in the automaker's stable, but it can still tow a lot of cargo. Offered only as an off-road-oriented Power Wagon to date, it goes bumper-to-bumper with the likes of the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Trail Boss and ZR2 and the Ford F-250 Tremor.

What’s New for the 2027 Ram 2500
A new off-road-oriented Power Wagon version of the Ram 2500 debuts for 2027 with a Cummins diesel engine. Thanks to the powerful engine, the Ram 2500 Power Wagon gains fifth-wheel gooseneck preparation for the first time, readying it for greater towing tasks, and Ram also offers a self-leveling rear suspension.
Design
Big and bold, the Ram 2500 wears its identity on its sleeve, with Power Wagon graphics on the rear fenders, the tailgate, and even the vents that flank a prominent hood scoop. It’s fronted by an upright black grille, with black wheel flares and black graphics along the lower flanks. Ram sets the Power Wagon on 34-inch all-terrain tires on 20-inch wheels.
Powertrain
At the time of writing, Ram had only announced the 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel inline-six-cylinder engine for the 2027 2500 Power Wagon, which churns out 430 horsepower and a massive 1,075 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with four-wheel drive (4WD) with low-range gearing. The gas-powered 6.4-liter V8 will almost certainly return when the full 2027 Ram 2500 lineup is announced.
The Power Wagon includes standard off-road features such as front and rear electronic-locking differentials, a disconnecting front sway bar, hill-descent control, Mopar accessory rock rails, and 34-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac all-terrain tires. Skid plates for the DEF tank, the fuel tank, and the transfer case are also included.
With the gooseneck prep package, the Ram 2500 Power Wagon can tow up to 20,000 pounds and haul almost 3,000 pounds of payload. Ram hasn’t announced the towing capacity for other configurations.
Interior
While the Ram 2500 typically offers multiple cab sizes and bed lengths, the 2027 Power Wagon is offered only as a four-door crew cab with the shorter 6-foot-4-inch bed. It comes with standard cloth upholstery and a heated front bench seat for six-passenger capacity. Buyers can opt for heated and ventilated front bucket seats wrapped in leather. Additional leather interior trim is also available, along with power-adjustable pedals, memory for the driver’s seat, and a power sunroof. In terms of bed upgrades, Ram offers LED lighting, a spray-in bedliner, and a deployable bed step.
Technology
The Power Wagon comes standard with a 12-inch touchscreen that runs the Uconnect 5 infotainment interface. A 14.5-inch touchscreen is optional, and Ram offers a 10.25-inch touchscreen for the front passenger. A simple six-speaker audio system is standard, but buyers can upgrade to a nine-speaker system or a 17-speaker Harman Kardon unit. Dual wireless phone chargers are also offered.
Safety
The Ram 2500 Power Wagon has relatively few standard safety features. They consist of adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. Related options include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high-beam headlights, traffic-sign recognition, a surround-view camera system, a cargo-view camera, and a rear-camera mirror.
Pricing and Release Date
The 2027 Ram 2500 Power Wagon is due in the second half of the year and will start at $88,470. That price includes an undefined destination fee, which is likely the same $2,595 charged for 2026 Ram 2500 models.
In addition to the standard equipment mentioned above, it will come with Bilstein shocks, a five-link coil rear suspension, fog lights, and an integrated brake controller. Additional options include extended LED lighting for the cab and bed, the RamBox cargo management system, and heated power trailer tow mirrors.
