What's New for the 2026 Ram 1500 Ramcharger

The Ramcharger isn't a new name for Ram (it was last seen in the 1980s), but the 2026 Ramcharger is an all-new truck, and an innovative one at that. Essentially an EV with an onboard gas generator, the Ramcharger pairs electric drive motors with a V6 engine to deliver huge power and up to 690 miles of driving range, essentially eliminating any possibility of range anxiety.

Design

Somewhat surprisingly, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger looks quite a bit like a gas-engined Ram 1500. A body-color front fascia is one giveaway, as is the unique Ram logo on the grille and a set of eight-lug wheels. That number of lugs is normally reserved for heavy-duty trucks, but they’ve been incorporated on the Ramcharger to help with the excess vehicle weight and power (more on that later).

A pulsating charge port and integrated LED alongside the power tailgate are also key design features of the Ramcharger. Otherwise, however, expect this groundbreaking pickup truck to look very similar to Ram’s best-selling vehicle.

Powertrain

The Ramcharger is one part hybrid truck, one part EV truck.

It pairs a liquid-cooled 92-kWh battery pack with an onboard 130-kW generator powered by Stellantis’s familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine.

With dual eclectic drive modules delivering 250 kW (front) and 238 kW (rear), the Ramcharger offers a total of 654 system horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque. Not only do those figures allow for a 4.5-second sprint from zero to 60 mph, but they pin the Ramcharger’s maximum towing capacity at an industry-leading 14,000 pounds and its maximum payload capacity at 2,625 pounds.

The Ramcharger’s prime value proposition lies in how it blends EV capability with a gas truck’s driving range. When the battery is completely depleted, the generator can power the car (at speeds up to 114 mph) for an additional 550 miles.

Total driving range on EV power alone measures roughly 145 miles. However, the battery cells in the Ramcharger are purposely limited to only 69.7 kWh of usable energy in order to maintain capability (performance would suffer if the battery operated at near-depleted levels). As such, we estimate that the EV efficiency of the truck will come in at roughly 2 miles per kilowatt hour. Factor in the truck’s 27-gallon fuel tank and, to travel 690 miles total, the gas engine will need to return roughly 20 mpg.

Ram equips the Ramcharger with an electronic locking differential for off-road driving and a rear-end disconnect for efficient, low-loss driving. A one-pedal driving mode can be activated or deactivated via a button on the steering wheel.

In addition to six drive modes (Auto, Sport, Tow, Snow, Off-road High, and Off-road Low), the Ramcharger comes with three operating modes. An EV mode will deplete the charge, while a hybrid mode drives the electric motors while using the generator to sustain a level of charge. Finally, an engine-only mode will use the engine to drive the wheels but not replenish the battery.

Interior

Keeps much of the same as you’ll find in Ram 1500s. Trim levels have yet to be announced, but Ram has indicated that interiors will feature a range of materials, from leather to carbon fiber. For comfort, a 10-kW electric heater and electric AC system can heat and cool the cabin without needing the engine.

A rotary shifter with three drive modes (Ramcharger modes) lives next to the steering wheel with three buttons for Electric+ (the largest button), E-Save, Eco modes.

Electric+ operates the truck in full EV mode until the battery has been depleted, at which point the gas engine/generator will kick in to assist. E-Save runs the generator to preserve or sustain the state of charge at 50%. Finally, ECO mode will optimize the HVAC system and adjust driving outputs to optimize efficiency.

Technology

The 2026 Ram 1500 Ramcharger is slated to employ the Uconnect 5 infotainment software. A trio of screens will be available: a 14.5-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.25-inch passenger screen.

Ram is also offering a digital rearview mirror and a full-color head-up display (HUD). In the truck bed, owners will appreciate a couple of 120-volt wall-style outlets, plus a 240-volt outlet. The Ramcharger will also support vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-home charging.

Safety

The Ramcharger will weigh roughly 1,000 pounds more than a comparable ICE Ram, but if the sheer laws of physics don’t help drivers feel safe behind the wheel, a full set of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) will be included. These include a hands-free highway driving assist system that will blend adaptive cruise control with lane-centering technology.

Ram has also announced autonomous parallel and perpendicular parking tech, which will utilize an array of radar sensors and cameras to help guide the truck.

Pricing and Release Date

Ram has yet to announce official pricing for the Ramcharger, but the smaller battery pack may help suppress sticker shock compared with some larger-batteried competitors like the Rivian R1T or GMC Hummer EV.

Additionally, the Ramcharger is expected to arrive in the second half of 2025, but Ram is not planning to limit production in its first year.
