What’s New for the 2026 Nissan Frontier

For 2026, the Frontier SV trim adds a Dark Armor package featuring a black headliner, dark interior trim, black tailgate lettering, and 17-inch black alloy wheels. The mirror caps, front grille, and exterior badging are also dark. A new drive mode selector offers Rock, Sand, On-Road, and Mud modes, along with hill descent control. A new All-Weather Package for the mid-level SV trim includes a heated leather steering wheel, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and remote start. Finally, Roush Performance has introduced the Frontier PRO-4X R with a lifted suspension, coilover shocks, and all-terrain tires.

Design

Nissan gives the Frontier an appropriately bold and masculine look. The body sits upright and tall with squared-off shapes defining the fenders and hood. Up front, the throwback grille, available in satin gray or black, looks almost like a bull bar. A standard skid plate sits below it on all models. The PRO-X and PRO-4X get red front tow hooks, black wheel flares, and a black stripe on the tailgate above the standard “FRONTIER” lettering. The base S model has 16-inch steel wheels, and other models get 17-inch alloys.

The Frontier is available in King Cab and Crew Cab body styles, both with four doors, but the King Cab has rear doors that don’t open independently of the front doors. Five- and six-foot beds are available. Every bed has four tie-down hooks and bed rail protectors, and a spray-in bedliner is optional.

Powertrain

The Frontier is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 that produces 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque. It’s teamed with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) comes standard, and part-time four-wheel drive (4WD) is available. Fuel economy tops out at 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, 21 mpg combined with RWD and 17/21/19 mpg with 4WD. The Frontier can tow up to 7,150 pounds with RWD and 7,000 pounds with 4WD.

The PRO-X and PRO-4X models are the off-roaders, even though the PRO-X has RWD. Off-road equipment for the PRO models includes all-terrain tires, Bilstein dampers, front tow hooks, and, specifically for the PRO-4X, gas tank and transfer case skid plates.

The Frontier earns four out of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives it a top Good rating for the updated moderate front overlap test, but Acceptable ratings for the updated side-impact test and its front crash-prevention system’s ability to avoid hitting pedestrians.
