The Mazda CX-90 was introduced in 2023 as a modern take on the previous CX-9 three-row SUV. It sits in the near-luxury segment, and primary competitors include the Acura MDX, Lincoln Aviator, and Volvo XC90. Mainstream competitors include the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, Toyota Grand Highlander, and Honda Pilot. The 2026 Mazda CX-90 has six trims: Turbo Select, Turbo Preferred, Turbo Premium Sport, Turbo Premium Plus, Turbo S Premium Sport, and Turbo S Premium Plus. There is also a CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), available in Preferred, Premium, and Premium Plus trims.

What’s New for the 2026 Mazda CX-90

The 2026 Mazda CX-90 is largely a carryover model, but there are a few upgrades and enhancements for this model year. First, Alexa Built-in is now standard on all trims. Next, Polymetal Gray Metallic is now available as an exterior paint. Turbo Preferred trims also now have standard heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, and heated rear seats. Finally, there is a new Turbo S Premium Sport trim.

Design

Even though it’s a midsize, three-row SUV, the 2026 Mazda CX-90 has sporty proportions with a long nose and fastback rear quarter. The elegant nose and sculpted headlights have a high-end look and feel, and the molded side panels give a 3D-like depth to the vehicle’s color palette. Standard wheels are 19-inch aluminum alloys with a silver finish, but 21-inch wheels become standard starting at the Turbo Preferred trim. There are no appearance packages available for 2026.

Powertrain

The 2026 Mazda CX-90 is equipped with a 3.3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. It has an all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain with a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) bias. The Turbo models are tuned to deliver 280 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, while the Turbo S models deliver 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The Turbo Select and Turbo Preferred trims can tow up to 3,500 pounds; all other trims can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. According to the EPA, Turbo models are estimated to get 24 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, whereas the Turbo S gets 23 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. It is also worth noting that the Turbo models can use regular fuel, while it is recommended to use premium fuel on the Turbo S models.

The 2026 CX-90 PHEV delivers 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque and is rated for 56 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent). It has a 26-mile all-electric range. Premium fuel is recommended for plug-in hybrid models of the CX-90.

The 2026 CX-90 is a three-row SUV that can seat up to eight passengers, with possible seven-passenger configurations. Cargo space measures up to 15.9 cubic feet behind the third row, up to 40.1 cu-ft behind the second row, and up to 75.2 cu-ft with both rear rows folded down. The base model comes with leatherette upholstery, while the Turbo Preferred gets leather seats and a power moonroof. A power panoramic moonroof is standard on the Turbo Premium Sport and higher trims.

Technology

The 2026 Mazda CX-90 comes standard with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, wired-in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four USB-C ports, and three-zone automatic climate control. Starting at the Turbo Preferred trim, additional tech features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a wireless phone charger, and two additional USB-C ports in the third row. Other available tech features include navigation, satellite radio, a 12-speaker Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound System, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. While the Mazda infotainment screen is typically not a touchscreen, the 2026 CX-90 does have touchscreen capability when using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Otherwise, the infotainment system is accessed through a rotary dial on the center console.

Safety

Every 2026 Mazda CX-90 comes equipped with the standard i-ACTIVSENSE safety suite, which includes automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and a vehicle-exit warning. Available safety features include emergency lane-keep assist with blind-spot assist, a 360-degree camera, and automatic reverse braking. The Mazda CX-90 gets the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) 2025 Top Safety Pick+ award, and it gets an overall five-Star rating from the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Pricing and Release Date

The 2026 Mazda CX-90 is on sale now. At the time of this writing, Mazda lists the base price for the Turbo Select at $38,800. The Turbo Preferred, Turbo Premium Sport, and Turbo Premium Plus start at $42,950, $46,980, and $50,270, respectively. Then the Turbo S Premium Sport starts at $53,940, with the Turbo S Premium Plus topping out at $57,3700. It’s worth noting that Jet Black Mica, Platinum Quartz Metallic, and Deep Crystal Blue Mica are the only no-cost paint options. All other paints carry a $595 premium.
