What’s New for the 2026 Lexus GX
The Lexus GX was fully redesigned for the 2024 model year and carries into 2026 with no changes. The design is more sophisticated than the previous generation's, plus it has more power, and better infotainment and safety technology. This hearty off-roader offers more capability than most midsize luxury SUVs, and elevates from its Toyota roots with more sophisticated styling and finishes.
Design
The Lexus GX is a midsize SUV with the presence of a much larger vehicle. It’s a sibling to the Toyota Land Cruiser, but communicates sophisticated luxury without compromising its bold, blocky shape. Though obvious styling cues come from its off-roading heritage, features such as the LED headlights and the big, elegant wheels make it clear that this is a modern vehicle with plenty of creature comforts.
Powertrain
The Lexus GX has the same powertrain across its lineup. A twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine yields 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, combined with a 10-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel drive (4WD) system with a limited-slip differential. Properly equipped, the GX can tow a hearty 9,096 pounds, which is excellent for a midsize SUV. However, you’ll get just 17 mpg combined, according to the EPA.

Interior
The cabin has a similar aesthetic—purpose-built but upmarket. Switches, screens, and controls have a clean and intuitive layout, and are easy to reach. The GX seats five in its two-row configuration or seven in its standard three-row setup. There’s plenty of headroom in all rows, though three-row models are a bit snug on legroom. Synthetic leather upholstery comes standard, along with heated and ventilated front seats. Leather upholstery, massaging front seats, heated second-row seats, and a power-folding third row are all on the options list. There’s a scant 10.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, but that opens up to a maximum of 76.9 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded down.
Technology
The GX features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch touch-screen infotainment display. The infotainment system has an intuitive layout and menu structure, and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The GX also features a standard 10-speaker audio system, though it’s available with a premium Mark Levinson system with 21 speakers.
Safety
The Lexus GX comes with the intuitive, easy-to-use Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 package of advanced safety features and driver aids. The package includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist and curve-speed management, a blind-spot monitor, lane-departure alert, rear cross-traffic alert, road-sign assist, and a rearview camera. Options include a 360-degree camera system and trail cameras. This generation of the Lexus GX hadn't been evaluated for crashworthiness by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at the time of writing.
