Kia launched the K4 in late 2024 as a replacement for the Forte compact sedan and a competitor to other economical models like the Nissan Sentra, Volkswagen Jetta, and Honda Civic. Now, with the 2025 New York International Auto Show, the Korean automaker debuts the 2026 K4 Hatchback, providing even more variety for consumers (and going after even more of the Civic’s market share).

What’s New for the 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback
The K4 Hatchback is all new for the 2026 model year, though its also-quite-new K4 sedan counterpart does pre-date it by a few months. At launch, the K4 Hatchback is offered in two trims: base and GT-Line.

Design
Viewed head-on, the K4 Hatchback closely resembles the new K4 sedan, with the same wide “tiger nose” grille and vertical LED headlights. Both also get hidden rear door handles camouflaged in the C-pillar, and the sedan does have a fastback shape, but the hatchback really makes its own mark. Its roofline appears from some angles to be almost parallel to the ground, and the vertical taillights sitting right at the corners really emphasize the flared rear wheel wells and wide hips. An available Sparkling Yellow exterior color is offered exclusively on the Hatchback.
The K4 GT-Line gets sporty details to set it apart, including 18-inch wheels-17-inchers are standard-and gloss black exterior touches. The GT-Line Turbo, equipped with the optional upgraded powertrain, also adds LED headlights and fog lights.
Powertrain
The K4 Hatchback features the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine found in the K4 sedan. It makes 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque and comes paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), though Kia prefers the term “intelligently variable transmission.” If the sedan is any indication, and we think that it is, we can assume that the K4 Hatchback is front-wheel-drive (FWD).
For those interested in a “hot hatch,” there’s an available turbocharged 1.6-liter. This motor makes 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, and it comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission instead of the CVT. On the K4 Hatch, this engine upgrade also adds 16-inch front brakes, and both the GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo trims get a sport-tuned suspension.

Interior
The K4 is definitely an economy model, and thankfully so as there are very few new cars left that can be had for under $30k. But that doesn’t preclude it from offering some truly premium comfort and convenience features. Heated and ventilated front seats are available, for example, as are a sunroof (standard for the GT-Line Turbo) and black or red synthetic leather seats.
Interior space is a key benefit of the hatchback body style, and the K4 Hatchback delivers by matching the sedan’s rear-seat legroom while improving on its cargo capacity. The Hatch can stash 22.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats, compared to the sedan’s 14.6, and that expands to 59.3 when they’re folded down.
Technology
The 2026 K4 Hatchback comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as wireless phone charging. It features a “dual digital display,” a pair of screens in a single housing comprising both the digital gauge cluster and the infotainment screen. Kia’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit and Digital Key 2.0 offerings are both available, and so is a Harman Kardon premium audio system.
Safety
The 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback comes standard with Kia’s suite of advanced driver-assistance technologies, including lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go capability, blind-spot collision warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. Optional features include blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot view monitor, and parking distance warning. Opting for the top-of-the-line GT-Line Turbo unlocks available evasive steering assist and Highway Diving Assist 2, Kia’s (and Hyundai’s) Level 2 semi-autonomous highway driving system.

Pricing and Release Date
As of publication, Kia has not yet shared pricing information for the K4 Hatchback. Every trim of the 2025 K4 sedan clocked in at under $30,000, so while hatchback variants typically do come at a bit of a price premium compared to their sedan counterparts, there’s hope that the K4 Hatch will still be quite affordable. Although the K4 sedan is offered in LX, LXS, EX, GT-Line, and GT-Line Turbo trims, the hatchback opens with the EX trim level, which will certainly increase the starting MSRP. We expect to have firm information closer to its release date, later in 2025.
