What’s New for the 2026 GMC Yukon
After a 2025 update that brought revised exterior styling and a larger infotainment touchscreen, the 2026 Yukon gets only minor feature updates and changes to the content in various packages. For instance, the AT4 and AT4 Ultimate get gloss-black mirror caps, the AT4’s Performance Upgrade package now has metal sport pedals, the Hit the Road package now comes with black roof rails and a rear bumper protector, and the 25th Anniversary package is now the Denali Sport Nightfall Edition.
Design
Like many full-size SUVs, the Yukon has a big, blocky, imposing presence. It’s fronted by C-clamp headlights that flank a large, high-set grille with active shutters to balance cooling with aerodynamics. The standard Yukon is about 210 inches long, while the Yukon XL is 15 inches longer, most of that between the wheels. GMC sets it on standard 20-inch wheels, but big 24s are available. AT4 models are distinguished by a revised front fascia for a better approach angle, a black grille, red front tow hooks, and knobby all-terrain tires.
Powertrain
Yukon buyers have a choice of three engines and rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD). The base engine is a 5.3-liter V8 that makes 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. Higher-end models get a standard 6.2-liter V8 that increases output to 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. A turbodiesel 3.0-liter inline-six is available for all models. It improves fuel economy while offering 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. All engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Towing capacity tops out at 8,400 pounds for the standard-wheelbase versions and 8,200 pounds for the XL models.
The 4WD system has a two-speed transfer case for low-range gearing and an electronic limited-slip rear differential.
With the 5.3-liter V8, EPA fuel economy ratings are 15 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, 17 mpg with RWD and 15/19/17 mpg with 4WD. With the 6.2-liter V8, the ratings are 15/19/16 mpg with RWD and 14/18/16 mpg with 4WD. The diesel gets EPA ratings of 21/26/23 mpg with RWD and 20/24/22 mpg with 4WD.

Interior
The Yukon’s front seats are upholstered in a combination of real and synthetic leather, and they come with standard power adjustment, power lumbar adjustments, heating, and driver’s seat memory. Also standard are a heated steering wheel, heated second-row outboard seats, and tri-zone automatic climate control. A power-tilt/telescoping steering column and a panoramic sunroof are available. The Denali Ultimate gets 16-way front-seat power adjustments with ventilation and a massage function.
The Yukon seats eight with a standard three-passenger second row, but available second-row captain’s chairs reduce the seating capacity to seven. The second-row seats fold with a power release, and the third-row seats have full power-folding capability.
Cargo space is generous, with 25.5 cubic feet behind the third row, 72.6 cubic feet behind the second row, and 122.9 cubic feet behind the first row in the standard-wheelbase body style. The Yukon XL ups those figures to 41.5, 93.8, and 144.7 cubic feet, respectively.
Technology
Every Yukon comes standard with an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and a 16.8-inch infotainment touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a satellite radio trial, and a wireless phone charger are also standard. The base audio system is a 10-speaker Bose unit, and buyers can get 18- and 22-speaker Bose systems. Buyers can also get a rear-seat entertainment system with a pair of 12.6-inch screens, as well as an 8-inch rear touchscreen for climate controls.
A 5G Wi-Fi hotspot is available, and the Yukon comes standard with OnStar Basics that includes remote commands, navigation, voice control, and automatic crash response. Higher-line OnStar systems with more functionality are offered.
Safety
GMC throws the full suite of safety features at the 2026 Yukon, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection and intersection assist, adaptive cruise control, a rear-seat reminder, blind-spot monitors with steering assist, and rear pedestrian detection. The list also includes rear cross-traffic alert with emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic parking, traffic-sign recognition, GM’s safety alert seat that vibrates in the direction of a possible hazard, and a surround-view camera system.
Available safety systems are night vision, blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, a driver-attention monitor, a rear-camera mirror, and GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance system.
