2026 Audi Q5 Sportback Preview - summary

What’s New for the 2026 Audi Q5 Sportback

The Audi Q5 Sportback was redesigned for the 2025 model year, so the 2026 changes are minor. A panoramic sunroof is now standard, the infotainment system graphics have changed to look more like smartphone icons, the touchpad controls on the steering wheel have given way to thumbwheels, and a dashcam and automatic parking are now optional.

Design

The Q5 Sportback combines elements of a car and a crossover SUV. It sits high like a crossover on big 19- or 20-inch wheels, but has the fastback shape of a sporty coupe. Up front, the familiar Audi single-frame grille is flanked by a pair of squinting headlights. It’s light on design flourishes along the sides, but a rising character line between the wheels breaks up what would otherwise be a slab-sided look. The taillights are joined by a light strip, and the fastback shape is emphasized by a standard rear spoiler. A Black Optic package upgrades to 20-inch wheels and adds dark Audi grille rings, exterior trim, and wheel center caps, along with dark chrome exhaust tips.

Powertrain

The Audi Q5 Sportback is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Power flows to the wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. Audi quotes fuel economy figures of 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. With an available towing package, the Q5 Sportback can tow up to 4,400 pounds.

Interior

The Q5 Sportback comes standard with leather upholstery, power-adjustable and heated front seats, and a power tilt and telescoping steering column. Ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel are available on upper trim levels. Standard three-zone automatic climate control lets the two front occupants and the rear seat each set their own temperatures. A panoramic sunroof is also standard. The three-passenger rear seat offers good space, including 38 inches of legroom. Cargo space is limited by the sloping roofline, but there is still a useful 25.4 cubic feet behind the second row and 53.1 cubic feet behind the first row with the rear seats folded down.

Technology

An 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen are standard, and a 10.9-inch front passenger screen is optional. The touchscreen uses the latest version of Audi’s excellent MMI interface, while navigation is standard and a dash cam is optional. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system is available.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the Q5 Sportback includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with intersection assist, lane-departure warning, and high-beam assist. Adaptive cruise control is standard on the Premium Plus and Prestige trims, while a surround-view camera system is standard on all but the base Premium trim. The Prestige also gets standard rear parking sensors with brake support and automatic and remote parking. The Q5 Sportback has done well in crash tests; the updated 2025 version qualified as a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)—its highest honor—and earned a top five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
