What’s New for the 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI
For the 2025 model year, the Golf GTI receives a facelift, as well as new standard features and upgraded infotainment technology. VW’s IQ.Drive is standard across the lineup, and the downside (as we’ll explain later) is that the manual transmission is no longer available.
Design
The new look for the Golf GTI includes updated headlights and taillights, a standard lightbar, a revised bumper, and an illuminated VW logo. There are two new color options, Alpine Silver and Slate Blue. These changes graft onto the iconic GTI profile, which features an upright design that provides sensible cargo space and terrific driver visibility.
Powertrain
The singular powertrain setup is a turbocharged inline-four that puts out 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. This is less than the updated European version, which makes 261 horsepower. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) routes power to the front wheels. The GTI now comes with a host of driver-assistance aids which are difficult to make work with a manual transmission (however, Subaru has accomplished this with the rival WRX). EPA fuel economy estimates have not yet been posted, but the 2024 model returns fuel economy of 24 mpg city, 33 highway, and 27 combined.

Interior
What makes the Golf GTI different from other performance cars is its versatile hatchback layout. It provides up to 34.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 19.9 cubic feet with the rear seats in use.
The Golf GTI has a refined cabin with standard features such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, push-button start, and ambient LED cabin lighting. Available features include leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats.
Technology
The 2025 Golf GTI features an updated 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It includes an improved layout with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This screen works in tandem with new hard buttons on the steering wheel, replacing the previous touch-capacitive buttons, which is expected to improve usage. The updated MIB4 infotainment software is also expected to make operating the touchscreen more intuitive.
