What’s New for the 2025 Toyota Tacoma

Since the Toyota Tacoma was redesigned in 2024, it is essentially a carry-over in 2025. However, ther are some small upgrades for this model year, including new easy-access red front tow hooks for the TRD Pro and Trailhunter trims and a fourth available pre-wired aux switch. Additionally, the Tacoma TRD Pro gets a new color: Mudbath.

Design

The 2025 Toyota Tacoma has a blocky squared-off design with a bold grille and chunky wheel arches. It offers both five- and six-foot bed options, and comes in four-door Double Cab and two-door XtraCab configurations. The XtraCab is the only two-seater in the midsize truck segment, and it is only available with the six-foot bed. Standard wheels are 17-inches, but starting at the TRD Sport, you move up to 18-inch wheels, and both the Trailhunter and TRD Pro offer 18-inch wheels with 33-inch rugged terrain tires. Because each trim is so uniquely styled, there are no appearance packages available.

Powertrain

The 2025 Toyota Tacoma is available with both rear- and four-wheel drive, has both hybrid and non hybrid powertrain options, and is currently the only pickup truck that still offers a manual transmission option. The base powertrain is a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine and, trucks that offer both the eight-speed automatic and six-speed manual transmissions, it delivers 228 horsepower with the automatic and 270hp via the manual. The manual transmission is only available on the SR, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-Road Trims. On trucks that only have the automatic, it will deliver 278hp. The hybrid uses the same turbo engine, and delivers up to 326 horsepower. The hybrid i-Force Max powertrain is only offered with 4WD. It’s available on the TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and Limited, and is the standard powertrain on the Trailhunter and TRD Pro. Depending on the configuration, the 2WD models deliver between 20 and 21 mpg in the city and between 24 to 26 mpg on the highway. The 4WD models deliver between 18 and 20 mpg in the city, and between 23 and 24 mpg on the highway, while the hybrids get 23 mpg in combined driving. Maximum towing capacity is 6,500 pounds.

Interior

The interior of the 2025 Toyota Tacoma is smart, with design touches that differ based on trim. Standard seat surfaces are fabric with leatherette becoming standard at the Limited trim. The four-door models will seat up to five, while the two-door XtraCab will only seat two. The benefit of the two-seater, however, is the passenger seat that folds flat and the functional rear cabin storage, which is easily accessed with a long-slide driver’ seat. A moonroof is available from the TRD Sport trim and upwards.

Technology

The 2025 Toyota Tacoma is packed with tech, including Toyota’s Audio Multimedia system and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The base infotainment screen is eight inches, but higher trims get a 14-inch screen. Available features include a Qi wireless charger, a 360-degree camera, and a 10-speaker JBL audio system with a removable portable speaker. The Tacoma also includes optional pre-wired auxiliary switches for accessories.

Safety

The 2025 Tacoma is packed with standard safety features. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is on all trims and includes features such as a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steer assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, lane trace assist, and automatic high beams. Other available safety features include blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The Toyota Tacoma made the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick list, but misses that mark in 2025 because of a marginal rating in the updated moderate overlap front crash test. The National Traffic Highway Safety Administration didn’t give it an overall rating, and while it got a five-Star rating in the side crash test, it only received a three-Star rating in front crash tests.
