Toyota revived the Land Cruiser in 2024 after a short hiatus on the US market. The big, V8-powered SUV from years past is gone, and in its place is a slightly smaller four-cylinder-powered off-roader based on the Land Cruiser Prado from international markets. While the change is enough to draw concern from skeptics, Toyota promises that the new Land Cruiser is just as capable and rugged as its predecessor.

What’s New for the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser
The Land Cruiser was all-new for the 2024 model year, so changes in 2025 are limited. The launch-year First Edition model has been discontinued, leaving the Land Cruiser 1958 and standard Land Cruiser as the only options.
Design
The 2025 Land Cruiser is an unmistakable off-road rig. Its boxy, upright shape, underbody skidplates and protection, and black plastic body cladding scream ruggedness and capability. It sports old-school Toyota logos with the automaker’s name spelled out, and the top trim is available with two-tone paint options. The 1958 model has round headlights and daytime running lights (DRLs), while the top trim gets rectangular headlight units.
Powertrain
The 2025 Land Cruiser comes exclusively with a hybrid powertrain. It combines a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor for a total of 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. That power reaches all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. While it offers plenty of torque, the four-cylinder powertrain doesn’t make the Land Cruiser feel quick or engaging to drive. The SUV can also feel floaty at times thanks to its off-road suspension, and there’s more wind and road noise inside than many probably expect.

Interior
The Land Cruiser seats five people on standard cloth upholstery, though synthetic and genuine leather options are available. There is ample space across both rows of seating, and the front seats are extremely well-padded. That said, the new Land Cruiser lacks a third-row seating option, which may limit its appeal among family-oriented buyers.
Technology
The base Land Cruiser comes with a 7-inch digital gauge cluster and an 8-inch touchscreen. Other standard tech includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, SiriusXM, HD radio, remote start, six USB ports, and more. The top trim gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 12-inch digital gauge cluster, a JBL stereo, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and navigation, among other things. Toyota’s new infotainment system is far easier to use and more responsive than the outgoing system, making it less distracting to operate while driving.
