The Toyota bZ4X is Toyota’s first mass-market battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the US. Developed jointly with Subaru, the bZ4X is virtually identical to the Subaru Solterra. It competes with other fully electric crossovers of a similar size, including the Nissan Ariya, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

What’s New for the 2025 Toyota bZ4X
We wouldn’t expect a refresh just yet since the bZ4X just debuted in 2023, but there is still some news, including a new Nightshade trim joining XLE and Limited. Toyota makes additional driver-assistance features standard on the Limited trim, and, most interestingly, the automaker has lowered the pricing of the bZ4X for 2025.
Design
The new Nightshade trim makes a two-tone exterior available for the bZ4X, pairing either Wind Chill Pearl or Heavy Metal with a black roof. With or without the dual-tone paint job, this trim also blacks out the badges, door handles, and spoiler, and it comes standard with black 20-inch wheels. 18-inch wheels are standard on the base bZ4X XLE. The Limited trim gets 20-inch wheels in a machined finish. LED headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights (DRLs) are standard on ever 2025 bZ4X. The Limited trim sports more chrome than the other two, and the Nightshade has the aforementioned blacked-out trim elements, but the very obvious black accents on the hood and on the fenders appear on every bZ4X.
Powertrain
Both the XLE and the Limited trims of the 2025 bZ4X are available with either front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), but the Nightshade is AWD only. FWD models pair a single electric motor with a 71.4-kWh battery pack to make a total of 201 horsepower and 196 pound-feet of torque. Range is 252 miles for the base FWD bZ4X XLE or 236 miles for the FWD version in the Limited trim. Opting for AWD brings range down a bit to 228 miles for XLE and 222 for Limited or Nightshade. AWD models have two electric motors and a slightly larger 72.8-kWh battery pack, which allows them 214 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque.
Every 2025 bZ4X comes with a dual-voltage charging cable to support both Level 1 and Level 2 charging. The bZ4X is capable of DC fast charging at speeds up to 150 kW.

Interior
Special interior touches for the new Nightshade trim include red contrast stitching on the seats and steering wheel. Seats in the XLE and Nightshade grades are trimmed in combo fabric and SofTex (synthetic leather), and the Limited trim upgrades to SofTex only upholstery. Genuine leather upholstery is not available for the bZ4X. Every trim gets an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and six-way adjustable front passenger’s seat. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are available on XLE, standard on Nightshade, and the Limited adds front-seat ventilation. Heated rear seats are available only on the top trim.
Technology
Every 2025 bZ4X gets a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A nine-speaker JBL premium audio system is available on the Limited trim as a standalone option but, otherwise, the top-trim bZ4x gets the base six-speaker stereo just like the other two. Every trim also gets four USB-C charging ports, two for the front seats and two for the rear, as well as a single USB-A port for media.
