by Natalie Harrington

The Ram 2500 is a full-size, heavy-duty truck that competes with models from the Ford SuperDuty, Chevrolet Silverado HD, and GMC Sierra HD series. A refresh for the light-duty 2025 Ram 1500 debuted early in 2024, and now, Ram’s heavy-duty lineup also gets its due.

2025 Ram 2500 Preview - summary

What’s New for the 2025 Ram 2500

The Ram 2500 gets an improved optional engine, revised looks, and new tech and safety for 2025. It’s offered in Tradesman, Big Horn (known as “Lone Star” in Texas), Laramie, Rebel, Power Wagon, Limited Longhorn, and Limited trims.

Design

This is a mid-cycle refresh, not a full redesign, so we weren’t expecting anything too dramatic in terms of new Ram HD looks. The RAM lettered logo sits higher on the pickup truck’s grille now, and LED headlights and taillights are standard. As with the Ram 1500, the automaker has the grille design varying significantly to distinguish each trim. New wheel designs are also on offer.

Powertrain

As in 2024, the 2025 Ram 2500 comes standard with a 6.4-liter HEMI V8, though its horsepower figure now clocks in at 405 horsepower compared to the previous 410 (torque output still measures 429 pound-feet). If that’s not enough for your heavy-duty needs, the 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel has been improved so that it now makes 430 horsepower and a whopping 1,975 lb-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with a revised TorqueFlite HD eight-speed transmission managed through a column shifter. The new Cummins motor allows for a 36,610-pound towing capacity with a 3.42 rear axle ratio. To reach the maximum payload capacity of 7,590 pounds, though, you’ll want the HEMI.

The Ram 2500 Power Wagon and Rebel are four-wheel-drive (4WD) standard, while other trims are offered in 4x2 by default. However, any 2025 Ram 2500 can be upgraded to 4x4 for a fee.

Interior

The 2025 2500 is offered in Regular Cab, Crew Cab, and Mega Cab configurations, though not every option is available with every trim. The base Tradesman and step-up Big Horn come standard in two-door Regular Cab form, with seating for up to three people and an 8-foot pickup truck bed behind. Those two lowest trims can also be optioned with the four-door Crew Cab and a 6-foot-4-inch bed, the standard configuration for the rest of the lineup. An 8-foot bed is available with the Crew Cab on all but the Power Wagon and Rebel, and Laramie and up have the option to upgrade to the more spacious Mega Cab four-door, which is only offered with the shorter pickup bed.

Technology

The 8.4-inch touchscreen that previously became available at the Laramie trim level is now standard for the Ram HD line. Power Wagon, Rebel, and Laramie trucks now get the portrait-oriented 12-inch screen by default, and a new 14.5-inch screen is standard on Limited Longhorn and Limited models. These top two trims are also the only ones to get the 17-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, but a nine-speaker unbranded premium audio system is available, if not standard, on all but the base Tradesman variant.

Ram introduced a 10.25-inch passenger screen with the 2025 Ram 1500, and that feature now makes its way into the heavy-duty lineup. It looks as though it will be available with the Ram HD Power Wagon and on higher trims. A dual wireless charging pad can be optioned starting with the Big Horn pickup, and a digital rearview mirror with a Tow Mode is available on all trims, but standard on none.

Safety

Adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning are newly standard on the Ram HD lineup for 2025. Further available driver-assistance features include front and rear parking assist, active lane management, and blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage. Driver-attention monitoring, traffic-sign recognition, and active lane management are also available, marking the first time they’ve been offered on Ram’s heavy-duty trucks.

Pricing and Release Date

The base 2025 Ram 2500 Tradesman starts at $47,560 as of this writing. That price includes destination and represents an increase of less than $1,000 over the 2024 model. Ram says that the trucks are due on sale in the first quarter of the year, so we expect them in the next few months.
