  • The Nissan Versa is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine making 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque
  • Trims for 2025 are S, SV, and SR, and the Versa is available with a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT
  • The 2025 Versa is available now, starting at $17,190

Small, affordable cars are not the popular choices they once were, but some automakers remain committed to the format, including Nissan. The Versa offers a sub-$18,000 starting price, but it doesn’t skimp on standard features or safety tech. While it’s not the most exciting car in its class, the Versa sports a solid build quality and plenty of usable cargo space.

2025 Nissan Versa Preview - summary

What’s New for the 2025 Nissan Versa

Nissan didn’t make any changes to the Versa in 2025, and there were no updates in 2024, either. The car’s last significant change happened in 2023, when it received refreshed styling, new standard features, and updated infotainment tech. It has also become more expensive over the years, but it remains an extremely affordable option.

Design

The Versa borrows some styling elements from Nissan’s larger, more expensive cars, making it look and feel more upscale than its price tag suggests. It sports the brand’s signature “V” grille, and Nissan offers a few wheel choices, depending on the configuration.

Powertrain

Nissan equips a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque in the 2025 Versa. That modest output reaches the front wheels through a standard five-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Acceleration is acceptable, but there are no thrills to be had. Fuel economy is solid, at up to 40 mpg on the highway when equipped with the CVT. At the same time, the Versa’s small size makes it easily maneuverable in urban areas, and it maintains a decent ride quality in most situations.

2025 Nissan Versa Preview - interior

Interior

While it’s small, the Versa seats five people on standard cloth upholstery, though four people can ride much more comfortably. Upgraded cloth upholstery, heated front seats, and sport cloth upholstery are available. The front seats are surprisingly spacious, but taller adults may feel the pinch of limited headroom, especially in the back. That said, cargo space is fantastic for the segment, at 15 cubic feet in most trim levels.

Technology

Nissan equips a 7-inch touchscreen and an analog gauge cluster as standard, along with Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth, USB inputs, voice recognition, and four speakers. Higher trims get a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wi-fi hotspot, six speakers, and automatic climate controls are available. Though it’s not the most advanced car on the market, Nissan’s infotainment interface is relatively straightforward, and that ease of use makes it less distracting while driving.

Safety

The 2025 Versa didn’t earn a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but it receives a decent number of standard safety features. The list includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, a rearview camera, automatic high beams, and more. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention warning, rear seat alerts, and adaptive cruise control are available.
