What’s New for the 2025 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In
The Niro PHEV did not receive many changes for 2025, with the only update being a new heated rear-seat feature for the SX Touring trim. That follows no changes in 2024, though the 2023 overhaul was significant enough to keep the vehicle competitive for a few years.
Design
The current Kia Niro design is more modern than earlier versions, though it retains some of the previous models’ unique styling features. The headlights are set lower into the front bumper than in other models, and the Niro has a large lower grille with only a narrow opening higher up. In the back, the vertical taillights stretch onto the side of the vehicle, giving it a unique profile.
Powertrain
The 2025 Niro Hybrid Plug-In comes with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. Combined output lands at 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, which reaches the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. That modest powertrain doesn’t deliver many thrills, but the electric motor’s torque helps make the Niro PHEV feel quicker than expected. Kia also opted for a dual-clutch transmission (DCT), giving the SUV a higher level of engagement than those equipped with continuously variable transmissions (CVTs). The plug-in hybrid powertrain offers 33 miles of electric range and can fully recharge in around three hours on a Level 2 charger.

Interior
The Niro PHEV seats five people across two rows. It comes standard with cloth and vegan leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat. The SX Touring trim comes with perforated vegan leather upholstery, memory settings, a heated steering wheel, and ventilated front seats.
Technology
Kia equips a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 4.3-inch display in the gauge cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with six speakers, SiriusXM radio, wireless charging, navigation, dual-zone climate control, and multiple USB ports. The top trim adds a Harman Kardon stereo, a sunroof, and more.
Safety
The Kia Niro hasn’t been fully crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as of this writing, but it comes with a generous number of driver-assistance features that add peace of mind. They include automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, automatic high beams, driver-attention monitoring, rear-seat alert, intersection assist, rear parking sensors, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and automatic wipers. Front parking sensors are available.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, the 2025 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In starts at $35,885 for the base EX trim. The top SX Touring model costs $42,185, a significant upcharge that buys more premium features and tech.
