The Grand Cherokee has been Jeep’s flagship family hauler for decades, and it received a significant update a few years back with its first hybrid powertrain. The Grand Cherokee 4xe offers a usable electric range, plenty of standard features, and all of the off-road capability Jeep buyers expect. That said, some may feel the plug-in hybrid powertrain is too complex, and it doesn’t return the fuel economy that other hybrid competitors offer.

What’s New for the 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe
The Grand Cherokee 4xe has only been on sale a few years now, and Jeep hasn’t made many changes since its introduction. Updates for 2025 include a new name for the base trim and the discontinuation of two trims, though their features are now available in options packages.
Design
The Grand Cherokee 4xe still looks and feels like the gas-powered SUV we’ve all known for years. It sports an upright grille, slim headlights, and slab-like sides that give it an imposing look. Jeep offers a range of wheel designs, depending on the trim and options packages, and some variants are available with two-tone paint.
Powertrain
Jeep’s 4xe powertrain includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. Combined output lands at 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, which reaches all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The electric motors provide great low-down torque, giving the SUV a good amount of capability off-road and making it feel lively on the road. That said, they feel and sound complex in motion, and it seems like there’s a lot going on under the vehicle, making it feel a bit odd at times.

Interior
While the Grand Cherokee 4xe’s cabin is upscale and has a nice design, it’s not as premium as expected for the price. It seats five people across two rows of seating, and synthetic leather upholstery comes standard, along with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated rear outboard seats. More expensive configurations have genuine leather, Nappa leather, ventilated front seats, massaging seats, memory settings, and more.
Technology
A 10.1-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster come standard, offering standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, HD radio, and more. Available tech features include a rear-seat entertainment system, a McIntosh audio system, Amazon Fire TV, and four-zone automatic climate controls.
