The Hyundai Kona first appeared in 2018 and was followed by an electric version a year later. Redesigned in 2024, the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric is largely a carryover model. This subcompact SUV has four trims (SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited), and competes with the Kia Niro EV, the Nissan Leaf, the Subaru Solterra, and the Toyota bZ4X.

What’s New for the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric
Little is new on the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric after its update last year. The N Line trim is new for this model year, though, and some convenience features—such as ambient lighting, LED interior lights, and exterior vehicle-to-load capacity—have expanded to trims beyond the Limited. There is also one new exterior color available: Ultimate Red Metallic, which is a $500 option.
Design
The Kona has a futuristic exterior and shares the “Parametric Dynamics” angular lines with other Hyundai vehicles. It also incorporates the pixel theme from other Hyundai EVs, as part of the light bars on the front and back of the vehicle as well the various pixel graphics surrounding the vehicle. Though this electric version of the Kona resembles the gasoline variant, it is distinguished by the flat grille face, the front electric charge port, and the lack of tailpipes. It also has a 0.27 drag coefficient.
Powertrain
The 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric has a base 48.6 kWh battery pack and a 64.8 kWh one. The base pack is the only option for the entry-level SE trim, while the standard range is 200 miles, and it can go up to 261 miles with the larger battery. Power output for the base model is 133 horsepower, but the heftier powertrain delivers 201hp. Even though Hyundai has committed to switching to the North American Charging Standard (NACS), the 2025 Kona Electric still uses the Combined Charging System (CCS). Both battery packs can go from 10 to 80% in 43 minutes using the Level 3 DC fast charge network. All Hyundai Kona Electric models are front-wheel drive.

Interior
The interior of the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric is minimalist and modern. All trims get the large curved panoramic display and an open console area with retractable cup holders that enables multiple storage options. Cloth seats are standard, with leatherette options available on upper trims, while a power tilt-and-slide sunroof is standard on the Kona Electric starting at the SEL trim. This subcompact SUV technically seats five, but it's at its most comfortable with four occupants. The Kona Electric has decent cargo space for a small SUV, with 25.5 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second row and 63.7 cubic feet with rear seats folded flat.
Technology
With its futuristic design, it should come as no surprise that the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric is packed with tech. The curved panoramic display houses two 12.3-inch screens for the gauge cluster and infotainment system, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Available tech features include the ability to use your phone as a key, wireless phone charging, 360-degree camera views, remote smart park assist, a hands-free auto-open liftgate, and a Bose premium audio system.
