The full-size truck segment is easily one of the cutthroat in the American vehicle market, and while there are only a few automakers operating in the class, the vehicles they offer are some of the most advanced and capable around. That includes the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500, a more upscale take on the Chevrolet Silverado.

What’s New for the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500
GMC made a handful of substantive changes for the 2024 model year, which included making the diesel engine standard for the AT4X trim and making new performance options available. Updates for 2025 include newly standard hands-free SuperCruise for the top Denali Ultimate trim and standard cruise control for all others.
Design
The Sierra has become boxier and more rugged-looking over the years, and the 2025 model carries on with that tradition. It features a large grille, cleanly styled sides, and a rear-end devoid of loud graphics and badges. GMC offers a generous number of wheel choices, exterior trim options, and colors, and the AT4 trims feature beefy styling with all-terrain tires and underbody skid plates.
Powertrain
The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 is available with four engine options. The base configuration includes a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. A 5.3-liter V8 is available, making 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the range-topping gas engine is a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pounds of torque. GMC also offers a 3.0-ilter turbodiesel engine, which makes 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. The four-cylinder pairs with an eight-speed automatic, and all others come with a 10-speed automatic. Four-wheel drive is available.

Interior
While its work-truck roots still shine through, the Sierra 1500 is more upscale than its counterpart, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. GMC offers three cab styles, including single, double, and crew, with seating that ranges from three-across to six in the most spacious crew cab trucks. Vinyl or cloth upholstery comes standard, but higher trims get leather, and GMC offers heated/ventilated front seats with massaging features.
Technology
A seven-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes standard, along with a basic audio system and single-zone climate controls. Higher trims step up to a 13.4-inch touchscreen with Google built-in and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The system offers easy navigation and a responsive interface, and features like Google Assistant and Maps make the system much more useful. GMC also offers a range of upgrades, including a Bose audio system, wireless phone charging, SiriusXM radio, more USB ports, and dual-zone automatic climate controls.
Safety
Trucks aren’t usually known for being generously equipped with driver-assistance features, but the Sierra 1500 offers a handful of tech as standard. The list includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warnings, lane keep assist, lane departure warnings, and a rearview camera. Available features include a head-up display, a surround-view camera system, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, parking sensors, and more.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, the base GMC Sierra 1500 Pro Regular Cab, Standard Bed starts at $42,690, which includes a $2,195 destination charge. The top Denali Ultimate trim starts at $86,890, which also includes a mandatory $495 premium paint charge. GMC offers a staggering number of options and upgrades that can quickly drive those prices higher, but the good news is that the automaker also frequently offers incentives and discounts that vary between regions.
