2025 GMC Canyon Pricing, Specs, and Release Date

Full-size trucks offer impressive towing and payload capabilities, but they are “too much truck” for many everyday buyers. Midsize trucks, sometimes considered compact trucks, offer much easier maneuverability, and most still have more capability than non-commercial truck buyers need. The GMC Canyon is such a truck, and the automaker offers it in a wide range of trims, from the sedate base models to the off-road-ready AT4 and AT4X trims.

What’s New for the 2025 GMC Canyon

GMC made a few revisions to the Canyon for 2025, including a new American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) package for the AT4 trim and a new Nightfall Edition package. Some standard features moved between trim levels as well, but the truck is otherwise unchanged for 2025.

Design

The latest GMC Canyon models have taken on some of the more prominent styling elements from their larger Sierra counterpart. The upright grille, sculpted sides, and boxy bed give the Canyon a beefy look that mirrors the updates recently given to the full-size Sierra, and GMC offers a range of wheel options depending on the trim level.

Powertrain

GMC once offered a V6 and a diesel option for the Canyon, but the automaker trimmed the available engine lineup a few years back, leaving only a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder. While the Chevrolet Colorado gets three versions of the engine with different outputs, the Canyon gets the most powerful version in all trim levels, which produces 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or four-wheel drive (RWD or 4WD). The large four-cylinder engine delivers plenty of power and torque in most situations, but people who need to tow may miss the previously available diesel.

Interior

The Canyon comes only in a crew cab body style, with four doors and seating for five people. Cloth upholstery is standard, but higher trims add synthetic or genuine leather. Heated and ventilated front seats are available, along with a heated steering wheel and memory features for the driver’s seat. While both rows offer reasonably spacious seating, taller adults may find limited headroom in the back seat.

Technology

GMC equips an 11.3-inch touchscreen and an 11-inch digital gauge cluster as standard. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with voice commands, six speakers, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and more. Higher trims add a Bose audio system, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate controls, remote start, and other features.

Safety

The Canyon has a decent list of standard advanced driver-assistance technologies that includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, GM's Teen Driver Mode, a rearview camera, following distance indicators, lane-keep assist, and pedestrian and cyclist detection. Available tech includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, and safety alert vibrating seats.
