by Chris Teague

The Ranger is Ford’s midsize pickup truck, offering a good deal of capability in a smaller, more maneuverable package than its beefier F-150 counterpart. Ford redesigned the truck in 2024, giving it a more modern interior, more muscular styling, and new tech.

What’s New for the 2025 Ford Ranger

Following the complete overhaul for the 2024 model year, Ford has made no changes heading into 2025.

Design

The new Ranger gained boxier, beefier styling, with a more upright front end and a new LED daytime running light (DRL) design. Ford still offers a range of graphics and wheel choices, depending on the trim, and the range-topping Ranger Raptor offers orange accents with unique graphics and badges. The new look makes the truck look larger and more imposing than it would otherwise.

Powertrain

Ford offers three powertrain options for the 2025 Ranger. The base configuration features a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder with 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. A turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 is available, making 315 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, and the Raptor trim has a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 405 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. All three pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or four-wheel drive (RWD or 4WD). While the Raptor’s massive horsepower figures are impressive, all of the Ranger’s available powertrains make a competent and mostly refined companion for the truck.

Interior

The Ranger seats up to five people on standard cloth upholstery, though four people will be much more comfortable, thanks to its limited rear-seat space. Leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel are available. The Ranger offers spacious front seats and decent ergonomics, and the new design is light years ahead of the previous version, which felt cheap, even in more expensive configurations.

Technology

A 10-inch touchscreen and an 8-inch digital gauge cluster come standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, USB ports, and Bluetooth. Higher trims step up to a 12-inch portrait-oriented screen and a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster. Other available tech includes wireless charging, HD radio, SiriusXM radio, a 10-speaker Bang and Olufsen stereo, dual-zone automatic climate controls, navigation, remote start, bed-mounted power outlets, and ambient interior lighting. Ford’s Sync infotainment system offers a generous number of compelling features, but it maintains simplicity, making it easier to use than other highly advanced interfaces on the market. It also looks great, with a good mix of colors, and the high-resolution screen works flawlessly.

Safety

The 2025 Ranger hasn’t been tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) yet, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded it four stars out of five overall. Standard features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a rearview camera, driver-attention monitoring, pedestrian detection, and automatic headlights. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a Pro Trailer backup assist system, rain-sensing wipers, lane-keep assist, and parking sensors.
