Small trucks are making a resurgence, with Hyundai, Ford, and Honda each offering easily maneuverable pickups with better fuel economy and lower prices than full-size models. The Ford Maverick landed in 2021 and became an immediate hit, offering a hybrid powertrain and an incredibly affordable starting price.

What’s New for the 2025 Ford Maverick
Ford shuffled the Maverick’s powertrain lineup in 2024, making the hybrid optional instead of standard. For 2025, the automaker made all-wheel drive available for hybrid models and added a new Lobo trim, an ode to the low-riding street trucks of the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s.
Design
The Maverick got a refreshed exterior look for 2025, including new LED headlights, an updated front bumper, and new wheel options for some trims. The Lobo builds on that with a lower stance, large wheels, and dark exterior accents.
Powertrain
Two powertrains are available for the 2025 Maverick. The base engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 238 horsepower, while the available hybrid uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor to make a combined 191 horsepower. Gas-only models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and hybrids get a continuously variable gearbox. All-wheel drive (AWD) is available for both, while front-wheel drive (FWD) is the standard configuration. Maximum towing lands at up to 4,000 pounds with the available 4k Towing Package, but standard towing is 2,000 pounds. The max payload is 1,500 pounds for FWD hybrid models and 1,400 pounds for those with AWD. Gas models can carry 1,500 pounds with AWD and 1,140 in the Tremor configuration.

Interior
Ford updated the Maverick’s interior to introduce more differentiation between trims. Some models have two-tone options with colors such as blue and tan, and others feature more monotone color palettes. The truck seats five people and comes in a crew cab configuration only.
Technology
All Mavericks now come with a 13.2-inch touchscreen, which replaces the outgoing model’s 8-inch unit. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment system is one of the most intuitive and responsive on the market. The interface also brings a 5G wireless model that lets the truck receive over-the-air (OTA) updates and access connected app features.
Safety
The 2025 Maverick hasn’t received updated crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It gets a few standard driver-assistance features, including a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic high beams, and automatic emergency braking. Available tech includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, and rear parking sensors.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, the 2025 Maverick starts at $26,295 for the base XL model with an EcoBoost gas engine. The almost-range-topping Lariat starts at just under $37,000 and the top Tremor at around $38,000. Ordering is now open for the 2025 Maverick, which is expected to arrive late in 2024.
