The 2025 Cadillac XT5, which replaced the SRX in 2016, is heading into the 2025 model year with a stay of execution. It sits in the luxury midsize SUV segment and competes against the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Lincoln Nautilus, and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

What’s New for the 2025 Cadillac XT5

Though the Cadillac XT5 received a complete overhaul in the Chinese market for 2025, entering its second generation, the U.S. model is a complete carryover. In fact, the only change made for this model year: The Platinum Package is no longer available on the Premium Luxury and Sport trims.

Design

The 2025 Cadillac XT5 follows the same design formula seen in the smaller XT4, and it has vertical daytime running lights and the signature Cadillac vertical taillights in addition to strong horizontal lines. The base Luxury trim comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels with a bright finish, and the Premium Luxury and Sport trims level up to 20-inch wheels. The Sport trim adds Brembo performance front brakes and red front rear calipers. There aren’t appearance packages per se, but there are “accent” packages that come with bronze, red, and blue wheel caps and body decals. You can also opt for Cadillac crest puddle lamps and clear taillights to make your design more unique.

Powertrain

Though there is just a three-trim lineup for the 2025 Cadillac XT5, it maintains two powertrain options. The standard engine is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo that delivers 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This is the only option in the base Luxury trim, and it is the standard engine in the Premium Luxury trim. The 3.6-liter V6 engine that delivers 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque is available. This is the standard engine in the Sport trim. All trims are available with all-wheel drive, though only the Luxury and Premium Luxury have a front-wheel-drive option. Max towing for the base engine is 1,000 pounds, but if you upgrade to the V6 and add the Smart Towing package, you can tow up to 3,500 pounds. The base FWD model with the turbo will get the best EPA-estimated city/highway combined fuel economy at 22/29/24 mpg. The AWD model with the same engine will get 21/27/23 mpg. Upgrading to the V6 sees a small drop with 19/26/21 mpg and 18/26/21 mpg for the FWD and AWD models, respectively.

2025 Cadillac XT5 Preview - interior

Interior

The interior of the five-passenger 2025 Cadillac XT5 is luxurious without being too tech-forward. It has standard synthetic leather seats with heated front seats and available leather seating surfaces. It has fold-flat second row seats, providing up to 63 cubic feet of cargo space, but with rear seats up, you still have 30 cubic feet available. Things like ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, floor liners, cargo area organizers, and alternate floor coverings are available. A panoramic moonroof is available.

Technology

Unlike other Cadillacs, the XT5 maintains a more traditional infotainment setup with a gauge cluster that is separate from the 8-inch infotainment screen. Additionally, instead of adopting Google built-in, this midsize SUV still uses the Cadillac User Experience (CUE) for infotainment, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Available tech features include a rear camera mirror, head-up display, tri-zone climate controls, hitch guidance, and 360-degree camera.

Safety

Because the 2025 Cadillac XT5 is a bit of a throwback, there are interesting levels of availability to the safety tech. Standard features include automatic emergency braking, forward-collision alert, front pedestrian braking, front and rear park assist, automatic high beams, lane-keep assist and a rear-seat reminder. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert become standard on the mid-level Premium Luxury trim, but they aren’t available on the base Luxury trim. Then, there are a whole host of optional safety features that aren’t available on the base trim but are available as package options on the upper two trims. These include adaptive cruise control, enhanced automatic emergency braking, reverse automatic braking, 360-degree camera, and automatic park assist with braking. The XT5 gets an overall 5-Star Rating from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, and it gets mostly Good ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It misses winning any Top Safety Pick awards because it hasn’t been crash tested with the new, more stringent procedures.
