What’s New for the 2025 BMW Z4
For the 2025 model year, BMW has added something that was dearly missing from the Z4: a manual transmission. This is thanks in large part to the fact the Z4 is the basis for the Toyota Supra. Enthusiasts clamored for a manual on that car, and with the engineering and development already done, there was now a business case for BMW to offer a row-your-own gearbox.
Design
With a long hood and a short rear deck, the Z4 has the profile of a classic sports car, but with modern details such as LED headlights and available performance brakes. The Z4 features a cloth convertible top, which allows for 9.9 cubic feet of trunk space whether the top is up or down. The top can be opened or closed in about 10 seconds and at speeds of up to 31 mph.
Powertrain
The Z4 sDrive30i comes with a 255-horsepower turbo-four. The M40i comes with a 382-horsepower turbo inline-six. Both engines route power to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The M40i is also available with a six-speed manual transmission.
The most efficient setup is the sDrive30i, returning 25 mpg city, 33 highway, and 28 combined. The least efficient is the M40i with the manual transmission. It returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, and 22 combined. The Z4 requires premium fuel.

Interior
The Z4 features a driver-focused, two-passenger interior. It comes equipped with power-adjustable front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and push-button start. Also available are genuine leather, ambient cabin lighting, unique dark interior trim, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
Technology
In addition to the standard fully digital instrument panel, the 2025 Z4 comes equipped with dual USB ports, a 10-speaker stereo, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. It’s available with a 12-speaker Harmon Kardon premium stereo system.
Safety
Standard driver-assistance features on the Z4 include automatic emergency braking, forward collision waring, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Upgrades include adaptive cruise control, adaptive headlights, front-and-rear parking sensors, a head-up display, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning.

Pricing and Release Date
At the time of this writing, the 2025 BMW Z4 has a base MSRP of $54,500 for the sDrive30i. The M40i starts at $67,000. In order to get the manual transmission, you’ll need to select the M40i with the Edition Handschalter package. This package is $3,500 and includes a number of upgrades including chassis enhancements and unique interior and exterior styling touches. The 2025 BMW Z4 is on sale now and is backed by a four-year/50,000-mile basic warranty.
