The American car market is crazy for SUVs, including those that trade some of their practicality for style. The Audi Q5 Sportback is one of them, offering a sleeker take on the Q5’s more traditional, upright shape. While it looks great, the Sportback loses some cargo space and storage compared to the standard model.

What’s New for the 2025 Audi Q5 Sportback
Audi gave the Q5 Sportback more standard features and available packages for 2025. The SUV now features Homelink garage door opener buttons built into the rearview mirror, and the Black Optic package has new available wheel designs.
Design
The Q5 Sportback looks like a normal Q5 from the front end to the middle of the back doors. At that point, it trades the standard model’s SUV practicality for a sloping roofline and sleeker rear-end shape that give it a sportier, more dramatic look.
Powertrain
Buyers have two powertrain choices with the new Q5 Sportback. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 201 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. An uprated version of that engine is also available, making 261 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. The engines pair with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), and Audi’s capable Quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is standard. Neither powertrain configuration is particularly thrilling, but the more-powerful four-cylinder makes a better companion for the Q5 in almost all situations.

Interior
The five-seat Q5 Sportback comes standard with leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. Audi offers ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. While the front offers a good amount of space, the back seats are not as roomy. Taller adults may feel the pinch of limited headroom, and the back seat’s legroom leaves much to be desired. Cargo space is slightly below average, at 24.7 cubic feet with the seats up and 51.9 with the second row folded flat.
Technology
Though many luxury vehicles opt for digital gauge clusters across most of their respective lineups, Audi gave the Q5 an analog cluster in its most basic forms. A 10.1-inch touchscreen with smartphone mirroring, Bluetooth, USB inputs, HD radio, and 10 speakers also comes standard. More expensive trims get a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with the Virtual Cockpit system, but even the less pricey trims offer an intuitive, easy-to-use interface.
Safety
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn’t tested the 2025 Q5 yet, but the previous model year earned a Top Safety Pick award. Standard features include parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Higher trims add traffic-sign recognition, a head-up display, parking assistance, and a surround-view camera system.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, the 2025 Audi Q5 Sportback starts at $52,200, a significant markup over the base Q5’s starting price of $45,400.
