The Toyota Supra’s revival in 2020 created plenty of controversy in the enthusiast world. The car, developed in partnership with BMW, carries many of the German automaker’s components underneath, including its powertrain. The Supra’s performance and styling have helped it win over many of those critics, however, and it rolls into 2024 sporting two powertrain options.

2024 Toyota Supra Preview - summary

What’s New for the 2024 Toyota Supra

The 2024 Supra’s only update came in the form of a new 45th Anniversary Limited-Edition model, which gets an exclusive paint scheme and graphics. Toyota is rumored to be planning to discontinue the four-cylinder version in 2025, but it remains an entry-level choice for the 2024 model year.

Design

The new Supra carries the basic proportions of its predecessors, with a long hood and two-seat cabin, but it’s more aggressive and features more dramatic bodywork than earlier models. It sports large front air intakes under the bumper, and the sides have deep sculpting with vents before the rear wheels. The 45th Anniversary model gets unique body graphics and a large adjustable wing spoiler.

Powertrain

While inline-six-cylinder engines are the Supra’s calling card, Toyota added a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to the lineup to make the car more affordable. It produces 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The available engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six making 382 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. Both engines pair with a standard eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive (RWD), while the six-cylinder car is available with a six-speed manual.

The four-cylinder is significantly down on power compared with the inline-six, but it’s still strong enough to deliver a zero-60-mph time of around five seconds. The six-cylinder model is considerably quicker, making the run in 3.9 seconds with the automatic transmission or just over four seconds with the manual.

2024 Toyota Supra Preview - interior

Interior

The Supra is a two-door, two-seat car with a focused interior. Leather and Alcantara upholstery come standard, but full leather is available. Heated seats come standard, along with manual seat adjustments. The seats are spacious enough for most adults, and they are well-padded to remain comfortable for long-haul drives. That said, the Supra’s high window line and low seating position can make outward visibility quite challenging at times.

Technology

The 2024 Supra comes standard with an 8.8-inch touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster. Other standard tech features include USB inputs, SiriusXM radio, HD radio, four speakers, Bluetooth, and more. More expensive configurations add wireless Apple CarPlay, 10 speakers, and navigation, and Toyota offers a 12-speaker premium JBL audio system.

Safety

Neither of the major safety testing organizations have crash-tested the 2024 Supra as of this writing. It comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, lane-departure alert, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Available tech includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, traffic-sign recognition, and a head-up display.
